Hal Blaine

You probably already know that Hal Blaine has played on more hit records than any drummer ever - literally hundreds of them. But this montage really shows what a range he had and the tremendous creative contribution he made. Whether the drums were critical to making the song (e.g. Good Vibrations) or just what the song needed and nothing more (e.g. Can't Help Falling in Love), this guy's output was amazing. He should write a book. Oh, wait, he did.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

    Amazing! I had no idea.

For lots of those acts they understandably had no regular band member drummer.

But some of those acts had a regular drummer in the band. And it was him on their songs? Very interesting.

He added a lot that's memorable to all of those memorable songs. Wow.

    Thanks for sharing that.

    Hal is a great drummer!

That said, he was one of the few great drummers of his generation that was willing to NOT swing.  There were a lot of great drummers at that time that flat out turned down those sessions simply out of musical snobbery because it was “Rock and Roll”.

And yes - he could swing.
    Played a "monster" kit too.
