Hand drawn ADSR envelopes?

I am playing around with the Rapture demo and I'm finding that adjusting an element's ADSR is annoying (and time consuming). Is there an advantage over the regular ADSR sliders or knobs.

Many. It does take a little getting used to at first.

Breakpoint envelopes specify a moment in time and a level with the same single point. The segments between them can be adjusted to all types of 'curves' with ease. In a practical sense, adding one point sets an attack time and attack maximum level. The next is decay time and decay level. You can build one EG, and copy/paste for variations.

Other advantages include multiple attacks, multiple releases, etc. You can set 100 points in a Rapture EG, and that's a false restriction placed there for resource protection. Rapture 1.1 makes construction even easier with Snap points and sync to tempo variations.

It's a different way of looking at envelopes. And it gets easier in short order.

    Thanks b rock,

I guess I'll get used to it. I know I could save an element but does version 1.1 allow you to create and save envelope settings only?

No, it doesn't, as an isolated file. But there is a solution to that in any version.

You just save presets loaded with envelopes only. One preset program can store 42 individual envelopes. You can have two instances open, and copy the envelopes from the source to your storage preset. Later, open up two instances, and copy them back from your storage program into your working preset. The same goes for Stepgens, LFOs, the whole Modulator section, Elements, Insert FX setups, and so on.

My only problem with the break point envelopes is scale - no problem w/ punching in points but re-jiggering the time scale is a pain. Would it be possible to reacch the edge of the envelope screen and have it jump to wider view? I know you can manually adjust it, but it is an extra step when drawing long attacks or releases.

Rapture doesn't do auto-scroll, but mod wheel does great for that.

If memory serves me the arrow keys are keyboard shortcuts when focus is on the EG window Right/left up/down.

See I was using the ADSR/EG window to sequence wave sounds a while back and brock/Tom tipped me to the arrow keys. Zoom in out?

Yea for the KB shortcuts. Too numerous to list here but Major cool to use. The list is long and they can be timesavers for repetitive tasks.
