Happy Gnu Year, Coffee House!

Happy Gnu Year to Ewe. I hope 2016 finds you content, at peace and surrounded by loved ones.

If you were planning on having a horrible year, I'm sorry to foil your plans. There are too many people here wishing you the best for you to get away with it. You may as well resign yourself to finding a bit of joy here and there. Sorry about that.

    Thanks Bubba!

I expect to be happy this year, but I'm not so sure about my gnu - when it comes to being happy, sometimes he's a bit of a gnusance.

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

Bubba's back!  When have you been lately?

I've been busy. The day job has been really intense for the last couple of months. My wife and I recently celebrated our 31st Anniversary. The family is doing well and I've been working on my second book as well as a couple of short stories. I may (note the uncertainty) start working on recording audiobook versions of some stories. Such a thing would require a great deal of work and I don't know that I have the time available to spend on it.

I have stopped in a couple of times in the last month or so, but for some reason I just lurked in the shadows. I don't know if it was just my perception or not, but it seemed to me that the overall tone of the CH had shifted again and I didn't feel particularly welcome in it. No one did or said anything bad, of course. It was just a perception that may have only existed in my own mind. Given the small amount of time I had available and all that was going on at the moment, I thought it might be better to slip out the back. If nothing else, at least the Coffee House got to enjoy some Bubba-free time. (For those who were hoping that would be permanent, sorry to ruin it for you.)

No, unfortunately there are some that feel if things aren't exactly as they think things should be (even if these views are contradictory to the stated function of a forum) that they need to bring their attitudes down on everyone else.

What poor, pathetic and unhappy lives they must live...

Oh well.  So how's the sequel coming along?

There have always been some who have wanted to control the behavio(u)rs and expressions of others in the Coffee House. Those of us who don't share those views usually try to be gracious and avoid direct confrontations for the sake of peace. Sometimes, it can get hard to take and it seems easier (and less irritating) to step out of the way rather than to argue about it.

As far as the book is concerned, it is the most difficult thing I've ever written. At times, this one has been painful to write. Many times, I've wondered if I've taken on something too far beyond my abilities. There's a distinct possibility that I have, but I'm going to do it anyway. I'm working on the ending of the book now and then re-writing/editing. I had hoped to have it completed long before now, but it needed more time to fester in my subconscious. At this point, I hope to release it on April 1, 2016. For me, for this book, April Fool's Day seems like the ideal time to set it free. I also know the title of book 3 and how it is going to end, so there's an arc to follow, even if it takes far too long to finish it. I also have some short stories that fill some of the down time while I wait for the book ideas to finish baking. I may work on some short stories once book 2 is done and release a collection between 2 and 3.

Good to see you back Bubba. I wish you success with your writing in 2016. Put me on the list of those that intend to support your work. I'm helping a pal with a book right now and it's a real painful process for him.

Will you release a hard copy or just an ebook? I think books are going to make a comeback, at least I hope so.

It's good to be challenged (but not socially, mentally or genetically challenged of course!  ).  Maybe you could pop ahead in time to see how you resolved your writing issues?

Some of us welcome people who might feel unwelcome here, even if some feel we ourselves might be unwelcome.

Thanks Bubba. It turns out that 2016 does happen to find me content, at peace and with my loved one.
I (we) am (are) planning to have a great year, including moving to a place I've been wanting to move to for about 25 years now, and doing some writing of my own.

And of course continuing on with my DAW of choice recordings.

I'd just like to add that this is also refreshing and nice to see for us Canadians and British who spell things with the added 'u' as in 'behaviour', and also 'colour', 'neighbour', labour, etc.

    Thanks!
Best wishes in the new year and with your writing and also congrats on the 31 years with the Mrs.

That's awesome [and even more & more rare to see these days]!

We just past our 6 year mark on Nov 1.

Thanks, man. I will release it in ebook and in print. I never thought that print would be taken out by ebooks. I think there's a place for both. While I prefer to read ebooks for convenience, I can understand why other people prefer having the tangible book. It's a little bit like choosing to buy a physical copy of an album instead of a download. There's something about the physical product that does not translate to an electronic version. One of my kids has been slowly building his vinyl library just for that reason. (I was proud when he added Moving Pictures and 2112 to his collection.)

We 'Mericans are only borrowing the language for awhile. You may not recognize it when we're done with it. Of course, at that point, we won't use language anymore. We'll just take selfies and grunt. Incidentally, I have to keep correcting my spelling and punctuation to US standards. I've spent so much time reading British authors that sometimes the American variation looks "wrong."
