Crossing fingers that we'll finally get to celebrate (American) Thanksgiving for the first time this year... Simply doing the grocery for the last couple of weeks certainly put me into the mood, seeing all the Thanksgiving stuff on the shelves. As for Black Friday - the mailbox is as far as I'll get from the house on that day. As usual, actually.

I'm around enough turkeys everyday so on Thanksgiving we always have ham as the main food. In fact, for my entire life, whenever we celebrated at our house (mine or my parent's) it's always been ham. Well, that and sweet potatoes, peas with pearl onions, rolls and some kind of desert that requires ice cream and/or whipped cream on it. I think I'll hide the weight scale...

I have no problem holding back - actually, the problem is to try and avoid hurting the feelings of the people who cooked such wonderful meals, whatever the occasion. One thing I've learned is that when it comes to food, people are like junkies. There's always someone who'll incite you to take it easy just for that one time. And the next day it'll be someone else with leftovers and chocolate cake. And the next, a big birthday party for someone else's kid. And the next, someone bringing candies or donuts at the office. And the next day you dont feel like cooking so you grab something from that fast food joint on the road... There's pretty much no end in sight unless you put your foot on the ground. So at one point, I realized that you either accept to be regarded as boring and even rude or give up on controlling what goes into your body.

I am just waiting to see what happens. Instead of the 1981 Cadillac Terminator 3 movie hearse with 150 simulated bullet holes in it that can be bought, I suppose a dump truck to haul away the dead bodies may be needed along with the usual permits, licenses, EPA guidelines - 3415 new regulations announced plus others, and all the rest of whatever is needed in case people really go - crazy over the Holiday(s). Be Safe! Forget the political and religious stuffings!

I will spend Black Friday the same as I always do...at home. there's nothing on sale I will regret not getting for the price you actually pay of dealing with long lines, irritable buyers and salespeople, out of stock items after waiting and just generally overall "ME" attitude from everyone you come in contact with during those sales. I also temporarily boycott any stores open on Thanksgiving day. I used to work retail and back when I did, it was respect that the companies had for the employees to let them have a day off to be thankful with their families. there's no respect for the employees or the buying public any more and I won't participate in Black Friday merchandise and "early bird" wars. I will GLADLY sit at my computer on cyber Monday and shop for deals there. on Thursday, I am THANKFUL for my family and we all get T-day off from work! I will be smoking a 14.5 pound gobbler and making my infamous cranberry and apple stuffing, while my beautiful wife will go to her sister's house and cook the rest of the side dishes. then when the turkey and stuffing are done, I'll bring them to my SIL's house and we'll have a feast while my BIL yells at the TV because the refs are blind! good times!

I will be working Thanksgiving and Friday, lubricating the corporate money machine while the fat cats sit in their luxury boxes watching the football games in Dallas or Detroit or enjoying their pupu platters on the beach at Waikiki or jetting to Paris for dinner. Easy money, though.

and I will NOT be shopping at Walmart over the entire holiday because of their greed for the sale thus causing you and thousands of other employees to work on Thanksgiving day.

I will be desperately trying to sell my Korg N5 and some keyboard cases to come up with enough to pay rent and my (past due) cell phone bill... *Sigh...* I have worked out a deal with a friend who's expanding his business into a new, larger warehouse where I'll be managing things (and running the online store) while he's out in his big, new van selling. I'm busy trying to come up with a floor plan and preparing to coordinate the move now. Consistent income will be good!
