Hard Drives
I'm sure this has been asked before and I apologize, but the search function doesn't work. You guys using SSD's see any performance increases with them? What's the pros and cons of them? I'm thinking of buying one, but if there's no real benefit to it, I'll pass on it. Also, any problems loading Sonar and plugins back onto a new one?

I also have those (two 1TB SSDs) as internal drives. I shudder to think what it would be like to go back to regular hard drives. I would never go back.
It used to be that an SSD was expensive, so people bought small capacity SSDs. If you look around the larger capacity SSDs from Samsung are really not that expensive now. Sure you pay more for a larger capacity SSD, but the increase is nowhere near the stratosphere like it used to be. More capacity is definitely a good thing if you have a lot going on with your music software.
Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

I just bought a 500G Samsung EVO. That's more space than I should ever need on that system. I have a 1TB HDD I store all the projects on. I'm thinking about doing a clean install when I get it instead of copying everything to it.

I put the OS, programs, Content, Projects, and CCC on the SSD. All other data goes on HDD. It makes for a zippier start if you can keep the Projects and Content on C:.... IMO I will never be producing anyone else's content so I won't run out, and I have 2 TB of HDD to cover me.

I have 3 drives in that box right now. The C drive is only 150G I think. It's running low on space with what very little I have on it. So, with this new drive I may move the projects back to C and just use the slave drive for misc stuff.

I read a few articles on the one I bought and definitely see why they are so popular. I'll most likely buy a few more for my other machines.

Does that migration work well? I'm a glutton for punishment I guess. I prefer fresh installs with new drives.

Bflat5 What's the pros and cons of them?
Pros: * speed, especially seeking (increase normal use performance up to 100x and more, coping large files 3-10x) * no noise, no vibration, less power, less heat Cons (no longer actual): * when they die, they do that instantly. But they do not die too often these days. * they used to be small in size. But 2TB already exists. * they was honorable expensive, but that is no longer true. I will say that question is already at the level of "magnetic tapes vs HDD". Not that magnetic tapes have no use (they still do, if you need XX Petabytes backup) but no one will consider them for a desktop storage

I've mainly been waiting for prices to drop on them. It never fails that as soon as I spend $500 on the latest greatest whatever, 10 minutes later the price drops dramatically. Still, almost $200 is a bit steep for 500gigs I think. We'll see though. It should be here today.

If you have no qualms about trying new untested ( in the consumer market) tech and are good with PCs...meaning making sure your MOBO boots to this thing you could try this. Much faster than even a typical SSD. Fits in the M2 slot of an X99 MOBO. I think there's a work around in using it as a C drive on some mother boards. I wouldn't jump without some knowledge of the mobo first to see if it would work. http://www.newegg.com/Pro...x?Item=N82E16820147425

The PC I have now, I just built it sturdy enough to run Sonar. I didn't go all out on a mobo, but it's more than enough for this. I'll build a new one in the next few months, so I'm betting the PCIe drives will be much better by then.

+100 I have a SSD on my household PC. It has the system (Win10) on it. I also still have the old OS on the mechanical drive I did use. I can boot to either OS I want. I booted to the mechanical drive about a month ago. Man!! I did not realize how much the SSD helped. Nope. I will never go back!!
