Hart Giga Pro - E set

Thinking of upgrading my E - Drum set....most stores Guitar Ctr/Sam Ash only have the Roland sets. I've been really looking into the Hart Dynamics sets....they seem really, really nice....any feedback ....???

Check over at the Vdrums.com forum and you'll get more/better feedback probably. Have you looked into the RET e-drums? They are pretty high-end.

    K....

    Here's another question.....

Roland module for the E-Kit verses something like BFD or FXpansion. Would there be any "latency" issues playing the kit through the software...???

    Thanks

None here... 6 ms with BFD 1.5 triggered by Roland TD-3, and that's with an older Centrino notebook, too. Might even work at lower latency but I never felt the need to try.

Well I don't use the BFD all the time, only when I record. If you're practicing or jamming or whatever the Roland module is more convenient and sounds fine to my ears. Actually the TD-3 brain supports some articulations that BFD doesn't, like edge hits for cymbals. And the higher-end modules support positional sensing, too. Now maybe the BFD expansion packs can exploit these nuances, I don't know... I just have the basic BFD program.

And also, the Roland module allows for control of many pad trigger parameters, such as sensitivity and velocity to amplitude curves and what not, so even when using with BFD (i.e., with local control off) it's still pretty useful.

I have the Hart Dynamics 6.4 pro kit. I love it. I am not a drummer and while most drummers don't like electronic kits, the drummers that have played it seem to like it. I think it looks cooler than the Roland kits too. I have BFD2 and Addictive Drums. We monitor through the roland brain while tracking and record the midi data and then apply the drum softs synths later.

Have you seen this Hart demo?

I am a drummer...and I understand the thing about the E-Kits..........but "in the studio"....E-Kits are definitely the way to go...

Yes I have seen the video....I've been checking out the Hart drums for a while now...

When Toontracks was demoing their SUPERIOR 2 software at NAMM, Nir Z was playing a Hart kit. I think it does a good job from what I hear. It was mentioned in comments that it looked like he was using a Roland brain though.

I don't know that much about E-drums other than my TrapKat controller but I haven't heard anything bad about Hart products.

I'm planning on purchasing the Alternate Mode TrapKat as an addition to my Studio. I think it would be worth considering. Works great triggering my EZ Drummer (using a similar model that belongs to a friend right now).

Mod Bod.....I think all of the Hart Kits work with the Roland modules.....which is not necessarily a bad thing....I know the Roland modules are pretty good ...pricey but good....as I mentioned previously, Roland just released a new module......the TD 9 which is reasonably priced.....

In the end, I wanted to put my money towards something that was MADE for software... R.E.T. Percussion is really the only company out there that taylor to the Virtual Percussion guys out there.

I have their Stealth model... and it's amazing! Check out my signature... I use all the software I can afford, and it's the kit to go with. I will eventually get a newer, larger RET electronic kit, but for now, the Stealth fits in my little studio ;-)

    Check out my vids: www.youtube.com/mikeyvpt

For what it's worth, I used to have a V-Drums kit... but they're just... old!

    What do you guys think?

    NOT.

Update: I'm running BFD Deluxe now and that's a major ugrade from the stock samples. Also I routinely track at 2 ms these days with my wimpy old laptop, which I attribute to the fact I'm streaming from a Glyph GT-050Q on FireWire. No noticeable delay to harsh my buzz. Life's good!

My drummer has the hart dymanics 6.4 and a TD 12 brain.

We do the same thing as Introspect (monitor with TD12 brain and record midi data which is then used to trigger BFD2)

It is not the easiest or most intuitive process to set up the HH to trigger BFD properly (never, ever like playing a real hiHat--but pretty close most of the time), but once you get it, it is pretty sweet.

If it was me, as I stated before, if I already had BFD or EZdrummer or DFHS and I did not intend to play live, I would get the Hart or RET and an ALesis I/O and skip the brain.
