Has Cakewalk Phased Out of DXi?

So I just picked up Dimension LE with the Pocket Orchestra. I noticed that the 1.5 update here: Dimension LE 1.5 removes DXi support. I'm still using Sonar 6 where the VST interface is a little choppy; so I've been using the DXi versions of plug-ins. I've been under the impression that the VST versions of Cakewalk/rgc:Audio synths would be better, though, than the DXi versions since Rene programmed with VST in the old rgc line-up. Is there a significant difference, and has Cakewalk officially dropped DXi?

Thanks.

The older < 1.5 versions of the Dimension VST were using the older VSTi specification.  With the 1.5 update Dimension Pro was updated to the 2.4 VST spec.  So it's based off the latest and greatest, which also means native 64bit VST format.  Before only the DXi was 64bit (because you can only have 64bit VST with the 2.4 spec) compatible which is why it performed better on 64bit systems compared to using the old VST in bitbridge.

Hopefully this helps, the VST is just as good now...

The new Dimension Pro/LE update 1.5 was just released late Novemer 2010. The Rapture update was released in July 2010.

TTS-1, Cyclone, GroovePlayer, PSYN II, Rapture, Roland Groove Synth, and Dimension Pro/LE all are DXi compatible. So, I would say, no, Cakewalk hasn't officially dropped DXi.

What is the native architecture of the plug-ins Cakewalk now develops? In other words, does Rene lead a team in VST first, then convert it to DXi, AU, etc, or is it simultaneous.

I'm still using Sonar 6 where the VST interface is a little choppy...
Please explain.  I used Sonar 6 for nearly 2 years and I was never aware of any VST issues.

Performance is good I suppose, but Square I crashes every once in a while. It might be Square I or it might be the host. Either way, it's a ten year old synth so I'm not worried about it. Regardless, my main issue is pretty light. The VST preset management isn't very good in Sonar 6, imo. There is no default directory for loading/saving so it is a pain to locate your presets folder every single time you want to save. .fxb and .fxp never get assigned in Windows file types shell, and when you want to save changes you've made to an .fxb or .fxp, it automatically appends an additional ".fxp" or ".fxb" to the filename which makes the presets folder pretty incoherent. So if I want to make an "Initialize.fxp" and change it, I end up with an additional "Initalize.fxp.fxp" and so forth.

I imagine it is much better in Sonar X1. Hopefully... either way I'm not concerned as much about how Sonar 6 handles VSTs. I'm mostly curious about how things have gone down since Cakewalk bought rgc:audio because Cakewalk was very adamant about the DirectX format while rgc:audio used VST exclusively. If I can use either DX or VST in Sonar, I'd like to use the one that the plug-ins were original designed in. That's why I was wondering whether or not Cakewalk designs their Virtual Instruments first in VST or DX.
