Has Chrome taken a dump?
I was enjoying Chrome but for the past few months Flash audio playback has been sketchy for me... and I see by searching for a solution that some people have been dealing with it for years. Now I am realizing that something changed recently and Chrome will not play back Silverlight movies like Netflix streams without glitching... after 3 years of flawless playback. Goofy Google... you've made Chrome seem about as reliable as an Android app. Why? Win7 x64 Home Edition on a i5. I just switched back to Firefox and Netflix is smooth as silk. :-S

Ironically, the thing I have most trouble with in Chrome is Gmail.

Ironically, the thing I have most trouble with in Chrome is Gmail.
And just as ironic, you can't install the Google Toolbar in Chrome.

Just the opposite for me. Chrome is the best browser for my ISP's (dslextreme.com) branded version of Gmail. But like McQ I do have trouble (fairly often, but not EVERY time) with vids in Chrome. TBH, I've not tried the same faulty vid in IEx or any others as that's probably an inclusive test since maybe the next time I try the vid in Chrome it woorks. ADK support (who built my laptop DAW) says that they think my GPU is futzed. To sebd it back to the (local) mfr could mean three weeks to a month without the lappy (which really is my main workstation at home).

There was a brief moment where the flash audio playback got better. It was immediately after a Adobe Acrobat Reader update. It makes me suspect that Chrome is doing behind the scenes stuff like checking for possible updates and stuff when it should just be playing back flash. I've been making sure that my flash is up to date and that's when I noticed I needed a fresh Acrobat Reader update. The instant sound playback only lasted a week before a delay before the sound comes on started to happen again. I get it on Youtube, Soundcloud etc. The playback plays. There is ample data in the buffer. My download speed is clean and adequate. The sound just comes on when it feels like it. The new issue with Netflix and Silverlight is a fast stutter... it has been about 2 weeks since it started showing up occasionally and when it happens I check my download speed and it is fine. It happens with ample data in the buffer. My Task Manager shows the CPU getting spikes to 90% where as the same movie, in HD, plays back in Firefox with lots of headroom. It seems like Chrome just has a lot to think about. best regards, mike

Maybe Chrome needs to add a Mindmeld TM or two?
At minimum it could use some polish (or gloss?).

I switched from Chrome to Firefox a few months ago. Firefox is faster but for how long who can tell?

I used to get the stuttering problem with Chrome. Mainly it was streaming audio. I think it had something to do with a particular flavor of Flash that Chrome uses, and you can turn it off in the preferences and just use the normal version. However I seem to remember having a problem where it would revert back to the problem version every time I restarted Chrome. I honestly can't remember how it played out....I think the problem just went away of its own accord eventually.

The only decision I've made about browsers is to not use IE. Chrome is good, but you can tell they're profiling you. Whenever I use Chrome I get pop-ups for Waves plugs. Gmail is just the same. Send a few emails to a Gmail account and you're likely to see adverts in Chrome that are related to your email.

Not if you have AdBlock installed.

I'm downloading IE11 as I type.
But I'd definitely use Chrome if it supported the Google Toolbar, which I use quite a bit.
