And by play around I mean snagging up old beaters with broken necks/bodies and Frankenrigging that *%&%. Not conducting surgery on a healthy victim.

P-Bass thin?  What?  Are we talking a performing instrument or a recording instrument.  All that flubbing bottom end from active basses is going to get eq'd out anyhow.  IMHO, the P-Bass and the J-Bass are two of the easiest basses to fit in a mix of all I have tried.

In regards to a Rick bass (of which I own), that is pretty much a two trick pony.  You have McCartney Rick and then Chris Squire/Geddy Lee Rick.  If you aren't doing that, it's pretty hard to use them.  (Of course, there are a handful of exceptions.)

All this talk serves to remind me that I don't have a single Fender bass at present and if I'd stop buying rack mount gear and software long enough, I wouldn't have to fight to get this active bass, Stingray 5 sound to fit in a mix.

Hi,

If I don't go crazy, with the expenses, this is likely my next bass. This is the Short Scale version of the Long Scale one that goes for more than twice the price of this one.

I liked the neck on the Fender Jazz I had that I stupidly let go ... not realizing what I was doing! (... that was before I came here and you guys slapped me around to wake up! ... ) ... and this short scale version is the same neck that I was playing with before as far as I can tell.

My thoughts always were that the dual pickups would help get a sound that would be "more full" than the plain sound that one usually got from the Fender Jazz, before any fancy anythings got plugged in. I don't know if that is true or not, but I am looking to get one of those ... my bass playing hero is not Bapu -- unffortunately, but Mike Howlett ... and take a look at his bass in my pictures on the website ... it is one of these short neck versions, likely before this Mexican version, and the 2nd pickup I do not recognise ... if anyone can tell please let me know ... because I will get that bass and change the pickup!

Out of curiosity how much are they charging for that beast?

About 650 dollars with a cheap case that your grandma brought out of yesterday's laundry! Mine would be the black and gold one!
