Has anyone tried asio4all?

I have the original M-audio Mobile Pre USB that came with wdm drivers.I just discovered asio4all and I'm hoping it will work with my Mobile Pre and GTP4,otherwise I'm going to have to buy a new audio interface. So,has anybody tried asio4all with the mobile pre?

Asio4all is a kind of wrapper..... it fools the system. If you can run straight ASIO you're better off. See if there are updated drivers for it first if you haven't already done so.

I just tried asio4all with my mobile pre and it didn't work. When I open my mobile pre control panel it says its not connected,it did that before.I check for new drivers once a week,I'm currently using the newest drivers for the mobile pre.I have a Guitarprot that I've been using but,I need something better.

Any reason you can't just run WDM/KS?

I've never understood why a wrapper would improve performance.  Didn't w/ ASIO4all for me.

So...I'm thinking ...at this point, maybe it's time to get a new interface... one that uses USB AND ASIO.

    Waddaya think?

pod farm.  you're using TWO soundcards at the same time.  that will cause problems.

which line 6 USB soundcard device do you have that runs pod farm and why did you buy a mobile pre instead of using the line 6?

I don"t use both soundcards at the same time and I bought the Mobile Pre before I bought the GuitarPort.I've been using the GuitarPort but,I'm having a hard time getting my guitar level where it needs to be without clipping and I think the Guitarport is the weak link.

ok - but you just said you had clicking when using the Pod farm in WDM mode so I am confused.

also, what is the guitarport?  is that a USB guitar cable?  that's a 3rd soundcard.

I'm sorry about the confusion.I wasn't using Pod Farm when I was getting the clicking,I was using another amp sim and it happened during playback.GuitarPort is Line 6 product that lets guitarists play guitar through their pc and it can be used as a recording interface but,its more of a jamming, practice, and learning tool.I use the PodFarm 2 plug-in with the GuitarPort.

ok, but the guitarport is still another soundcard.  if you're trying to record your guitar using it AND the mobile pre then you're trying to use 2 soundcards.

if not, I still am confused exactly what you're doing.

Right now I'm just using the GuitarPort as my soundcard.I tried the mobile pre thinking/hoping I would get better results.

ok - but you can't use 2 soundcards at the same time in ASIO driver mode - and the guitarport and the mobile pre are both soundcards.

and also, even if you use WDM driver mode - trying to use the guitarport for recording your guitar but using the mobile pre (or even your motherboard onboard soundcard) will cause sync problems because you are trying to use 2 different clocks (on separate soundcards).

I'm not trying to use both sound cards at the same time,I disconnected the Guitarport when I tried to use the Mobile Pre.Now,I'm just using the Guitarport.I know that using both at the same time will cause problems.
I was hoping asio4all would allow me to use the Mobile Pre but,I couldn't get it to work.I'm going to get a better soundcard that uses ASIO drivers

Lol, Beag. He's not using 2 soundcards, he owns 2 soundcards. He is now using the Guitar Port only.

Steve, what adjustments have you made to the Pod and Cakewalk settings? (ie: latency and buffer settings)

if you want to use the guitarport then I'm just confused why you wanted the mobile pre.  I'm sorry if I'm making this difficult.

the mobile pre should work fine in ASIO OR WDM driver mode if WITHOUT ASIO4ALL because it has it's own WDM and ASIO drivers.  but only if you don't have the guitarport hooked up at the same time.

Everything as far as latency and buffer size is default.I tried setting my levels in guitar Tracks Pro 4 to zero and went from there, then I put a eq pedal set flat in front of the GuitarPort and boosted the eq's output to get a stronger signal going into GTP4.I realy believe the problem is the GuitarPort,it works as a recording interface but, thats not what it is designed for.I'm just going to get a new soundcard that uses ASIO drivers.

Complaints of "clicking" sure sounds like a clocking problem. If that's what it is, using ASIO4All would not resolve it.
