Has anyone tried the Tape sim?

I love the PC and I'm curious to hear thoughts on the tape sim.

I'm listening to it now. I hit F1 on the PC Plug, but couldn't get help on it.

It sounds good. I'm going to leave it in this mix.

I've played with Melda's tape Sim and I like this one as much anyway. I'm not really side by siding them. This is definitely good enough for me to use.

I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

Interestingly, on the stereo link button there is no indication of which button state is stereo linked. The button shows a lock and a yellow background in one state and a black background in the other. One is stereo linked and the other is not. Shrug. :-)

A hove tip would have been nice. Or at least to specify with examples in the documentation as to which is which. I'm guessing yellow is stereo locked.

I've been playing with it tonight. It's got the kind of crunchy compressed saturation that you'd expect from tape (totally unlike 'toob' drive). Promising!

Not trying to embarrass myself... Here's me and a friend trying a new song... I put the tape sim on it. There's quiet at the beginning of the song where you can hear the noise (some of which is the AC blowing in the room)...

Anxious to hear the reviews on this as well! Using less and less of the UAD stuff with every X series release and I really hope that this will at least compete with the level of quality emulation that the Concrete Limiter and the Ca2a has demonstrated. The Pro Channel has become our goto plug set in most productions now, a serious tool.

Serious indeed. I use it exclusively now. There have only been a few plugins (all offenders were x86 synthmaker jobs) that I haven't been able to create PC Fx chains for.

It's really really good. I have the both UAD, Slate VTM, Wave's Kramer tape sims as well. This is a fantastic addition to the pro channel.

Bandlab Platinum and every other toy I can get my hands on...and yes I'm way in debt over this obsession...

I listened to your recording and I liked it a lot. The recording quality is very good, it sounded like you and your buddy were right here in my studio. I think I'm gonna like the tape sim....:)

It's great on things like solo finger-picking guitar. I think it's one of those plugs that you have to experiment with as it acts differently on different sources. It also depends on what the tracks are around the track you are using it on.

Hi,

Could you or someone else at Cakewalk give the backstory of the development of the tape sim?  Was it done in-house or done by Softtube, Studio Devil, etc?   What machines does it model, etc?

Thanks!

@ClintMartin... I stuck it on the master before the limiter.

Can you elaborate?

I particularly like it on drum buses. And bass tracks.
