Has anyone used the Soundcraft Signature 22MTK with Sonar?

Was thinking of picking one of these up for live and live recording.  Does anyone have experience with the 22 in and out usb??

Sorry to drag this up from 4 weeks ago, but this piece of kit really interests me.

  • 24-in/22-out USB interface
  • Ghost mic preamps
  • Sapphyre British EQ with sweepable mid-bands per channel
  • Lexicon Effects featuring Reverbs, Delays, Choruses and Modulations
  • dbx® Limiters (High-ratio Compressors) on input channels
  • Switchable Hi-Z inputs for guitars, basses and other instruments
All at a ridiculous price.  I am interested in hte 12MTK - the 12 channel version.  I have spoken to a vendor who checked it out at last year's NAMM, and he said it was remarkable quality, and was impressed before he even heard the price.  He was astounded when he heard the price.  £320/£650 for the 12 channel/22 channel.

The only problem is that the release date keeps being pushed back.  The last I heard was mid February, but I spoke to someone at Soundcraft's UK distributor today, and he said End of April was his best guess, but it was only a guess.

I guess they are having some issues with the MultiTrack USB interface, as the 2 in 2 out USB versions are already in the shops.

I want to hold out for one of these, but don't know if I can cope with the ever changing release date.

So, in answer to OP, I shouldn't think anyone has used one with Sonar yet. I hope to soon, though.

I am also very curious about these mixers. Can multitracking be handled over USB like Firewire? The multitrack feature adds $100 to the price which seems pretty cheap.

If it does work well with most DAWS I'd only be interested in a 16MTK which does not exist. Currently only the 12 (too small) and 22 (too big) have it.

As far as Sonar goes, the MTK series manual doesn't even mention it, only Reaper, Logic and Ableton.

They are still not available, so I assume Soundcraft are having problems with the multitrack capability.

I also want to know more about how it will handle the ins and outs.  Reading the literature seems to show that the signal will go out to the computer straight after going into the mixer, and return to the same channel so that you can mix through the "board".  I would like to know how flexible this is. (Hope this makes sense).

It also doesn't have any inserts.

I have spoken to vendors, Soundcraft and their distributers, and keep getting new release dates that keep getting delayed.  It makes me wonder if they have bitten off more than they can chew.  I hope I am wrong, as it looks reat.

I see it's been on hold since last June with a current date of sometime this month. Back ordered for nearly a year doesn't sound promising.

Apparently Sweden got a shipment. And there's at least one happy customer on Gearslutz.com telling about it. https://www.gearslutz.com/board/11778084-post15.html

Looks like May for the USA. But those will be for the year & a half waiting list preorderers. The rest of us may see them by July if the China plant where they're made holds out. Apparently they did not begin production until January this year.

Nice. Will be awaiting a full review especially on how well the drivers work with Sonar. The multitrack mixer I tried years ago did not work with Sonar.

Sonar could not see all of the USB INs/OUTs, only 2. But it was a while ago so I don't remember all the details.

It has arrived.

Certainly looks/feels the business.  Can't say much more yet as having a problem with installing the drivers.

The Wizard ran quite happily, then a window popped up saying "To complete insallation you must disconnect and reconnect your device.

This I do.  When I then click on "Finish" the same window pops up again.

Any ideas anyone?

I am waiting for calls back from both Soundcraft Tech Support and their distributor's Tech Support.

Finally got it to work by using a different port.

Good news is that Sonar is showing all 14/12 ins/outs.

Was not left with any time to experiment beyond playing back some loops, but will try recording some audio when I get back to studio.

The EQ does sound great, though.

I was thinking of getting that board but it doesn't have any send returns.  The board I did get works as well with the USB as it does with the Firewire (it has both options), so USB recording and playback should be fine for you.

So far it is a thumbs up for the MTK.

Only had a brief play with recording over one channel, but it seems to do everything that I hoped it could, and more.

Latency is really low.  Sounds fantastic.

Will hopefully have a little time tomorrow, and more on Wednesday to put it through its paces.

So far, glad I waited..

So a real test would be to have several outboard synths driven by their respective midi tracks recording all-at-once (simultaneously) to their respective audio tracks. Like recording a live performance.

At the highest resolution, how may individual channels can it send to Sonar simultaneously?

A common issue among many mixers today. You have to use a stereo channel strip for the returns.

I didn't like this idea at first, but now I think you should be able to route the FX return channel via USB to it's own audio track in Sonar enabling you to record both the dry signal and the FX'd signal separately. And you could even have several FXs (3-MTK12 & 4-MTK22) affecting one source while recording them all separately.  THAT would be cool!

Could you do that if it had real FX returns?

I have started a new thread in the Hardware Forum with my impressions/ tests so far, if anyone is interested.

In answer to OP:-

Yes, it works amazingly with Sonar.

I got the Behringer UFX1604.  I needed those fx returns for the stage setup.  Someone posted an interesting way around that, but I don't need to use my rack fx units in Sonar.  Just for live.  Your board is amazing too.  I get as low as 2ms latency on both firewire and USB.  No glitches.  We are both happy campers.

Hello,
Has anyone had a problem with the Soundcraft driver?
I have just posted a request about this.
Thank you,
Alan
