Hauptwerk version 4.2 is now available for immediate download from our website downloads page: http://www.downloadhauptwerk.com This is a maintenance release and contains some minor enhancements as well as bug fixes and is a free update for all Hauptwerk version 4 customers. The unique wind model feature is also now available for all Advanced Edition customers located within the USA. For a list of the latest updates and bug fixes please view the release notice: http://www.hauptwerk.com/support/documentation/ The latest supported operating systems (including OS X 10.10 Yosemite and Windows 8.1) and other prerequisites may be found on the requirements page: http://www.hauptwerk.com/requirements/We strongly recommend that all version 4 users update to this version.

I had forgotten about Hauptwerk. I used have the free version a few years back but dropped it because of problems using it in 64 bit Sonar. I will have to give the latest version a try. IIRC there was some worthwhile free content (if you like pipe organs.) I will report back!

Some of the expansions cost an armand a leg too. There is some free stuff around, such as this http://www.sonusparadisi.cz/en/blog/category/free-stuff/ We are in a whole new world here I think, very expensive and specalist. I am downloading Thefree version of Hauptwerk now. If it works without issues I will research the free content more deeply.

Third time was the charm. Got it downloaded and installed; only played with it a few minutes. Honestly, I think it is too expensive for my blood. At least the free version is functional.

Anyway, downloading as we write.
To be honest, I find it overwhelming. I am familiar with real pipe organs, and the Haupwerk is 100% authentic; however, it is very complicated to use. I really doubt I will use it much. I already have Burea Church Organ and the St. Augustine Organ and Leeds. I think I will get the Garritan Pipe Organ soon. However, the Hauptwerk is a beast, is authentic, but is too complicated. BTW, it is a real memory hog, and took a long time to load at first. Since you are downloading, try it out. You get to choose the free version or the Demo of the full version every time you launch it; so you can try it out and see for yourself. For me, too much work, too complicated, but 1000% authentic.

I know you got it 3rd time ... but ... I recommend a download manager for large downloads e.g. Firefox extension DownThemAll. It can split to threads for speed and typically resume broken connections etc.

Thanks Carl! The Youtube video is not bad, better than the soundcloud demo. Do you know which organ was the basis for the samples? It looks like one of the ones in the Garritan CPO. Anyway, it does sound nice, and has good controls of stops, plus Tutti. And it is affordable at 19 pounds.

Carl. One more observation. That Aria Church Organ is actually very versatile at least from watching the youtube. However, the stops on it are activated by pushing them in as opposed to pulling them out. From my past experience with real pipe organs, I have always seen it the opposite, where one pulls stops to activate, and then pushes to turn them off. i have seen push activation on rocker switched stops, but not on the round pull push stops. I am sure that they did this the opposite way to make it easier for the novice to just push to activate. No biggie, just made me look twice to see what was really happening with those pull (I mean push) stops.

Thanks Carl (again). By chance do you know if the stop (push/pull) are midi learn capable? I know it is a Kontakt instrument; so it is possible. I was turned off by Garritan's Aria engine, which is not midi learn capable, not even the solo and mutes. [EDIT: Just got an email from Ariasounds. They said that: "Unfortunately the stops are not currently midi assignable - but great suggestion, we will definitely look into this for an update." ]

They are considering changing the stops direction if they get enough requests. Email them if interested.
