Have I missed a "tracking" option.

We all know that we want lowest latency for tracking.

But what about those times where (unfortunately) you want to track when you have yards/miles of FXs across tracks and buses and you want to track with them enabled to keep the vibe of the mix?

OK, so I can freeze all tracks. Kind of time consuming but it can be done. But what about buses? Why can't we freeze buses? Is it technically impossible?

I can see why we would not want to freeze the "master" bus. But why not all other buses (by choice)?

I know, I know. I can export the whole project and start a new project and track to that stereo wav.

Just thinking out loud....

    Hi bapu,
we can't freeze buses but I really wish we could. It's been the subject of past feature requests from me.

i think  when this was thought about they were thinking more on the lines of
"well,a bus doesnt take up any system resourses.

ofcourse not until there is something going through it.
    can you bounce your busses?
is there anyway possible to that?
if so wouldnt that be almost exactly like a frozed track minus the ability to be able to restore it?

hopefuly we will be able to do this someday.

Why not bounce everything to a new track and mute all the other tracks? It should sound the same and you'd only have 1 stereo audio track playing while you recorded. I've done that plenty of times when working with a large project. When done recording, just archive the track, or delete it.

It sort of makes sense to me that you can't bounce a bus.

Becauase many tracks can go through a bus, ift means no change to a send could be made.

I undersatand the logic if you are 100% sure all is perfect with each track going to a bus and you won't change any send or bus levels again.

However, in that case as suggested above, bouncing each track with the effects to a new track and then "de-activating" the effects in the busses that have become redundant would do exactly the same thing (bounce your tracks with the busses processing and then free the resources used on the busses).

This seems like what you want to do?

    vinny199,

Not really looking for a specific solution (I typically create a mix to track to if I want the full FXs for the vibe) but more just thinking out loud why we can't freeze buses.

However, in that othe"R" program there is no such thing as buses and there, freezing all tracks would provide the necessary path (recognizing that freezing more than a handful of tracks could take longer than bouncing the mix to a track).

For zero latency get a good digital mixer and use its monitoring ability. If it has effects those can be used too.

    Why can't we freeze buses?

Because busses don't record data? Aren't you pretty much sending a buss to another destination?
