"Have You Ever Seen The Rain?" - Punk version feat. SteveStrummerUK & Quantumeffect

I told Herb (guitarhacker) that I had this version in mind but thought I should wait a while before I did it since he released a cover version of the song two weeks ago.

He said "go for it".

So I did. I enlisted Quantumeffect (Dave) & SteveStrummerUK and this is the end result. It only took 14 days. Not bad considering I'm 8 hours behind Steve and 2 hours behind Dave. I'm never gonna catch up with those guys.

My heartfelt thanks to both Steve and Dave (or is it Dave and Steve?) for putting up with me on this one.

Drums (and count in) - Dave "Quantumeffect" Carlson
Guitars - SteveStrummerUK
Bass, Farfisa Organ & Vocals - Ed "Bapu" Kocol

Mixed and Mastered by Ed "Bapu" Kocol

Hi-Res version is HERE

Lo-Res (Soundclick version) is HERE

Hope you enjoy it.

P.S. Don't tell Mooch I posted this song. He hates my singing.

I had the privelege of hearing previews of this, and I really like the finished product.  There's lots of raw energy on the track, and it comes across very powerfully here.

My only quibble is the switch to all those Am chords, but, then again, this is a Bapu tune... what did I expect

    Great job, guys!

Hey, this is great guys!  :)  Drums sound great Dave!  So do the guitars, Steve.  Love that bass too Ed, and quit saying you can't sing.  This is great!  Made me smile.  :)

Now get back to posting. I'm sure you're behind now!

cool stuff!  again - CCR/Fogerty is not my favorite, but this song is tolerable and actually I kind of like this version!

I might pull that crash back a little, it seems a tad hot in the mix to me.

    great work all!

It sounds like you were all there in the same room together when you recorded it. :)

Well... This isn't what I expected? I covered this back in the day when playing bass in a band. But our version was a bit more true to the original :-) This was enjoyable, but I had problems with the feed from this site (starting and stopping) Which makes it seriously hard to appreciate the overall work :-( But still in all? From what I heard? It made me smile. :-)

Hi Bapu/Steve/Dave. This is really a great cover. Drums sound huge. That is one bullet of a snare. Can't go wrong with the inimitable Steve  on guitar for a song like this. Punk elements but it also I felt like I walked into a fun dive bar and straightup blue collar rock was on tap. Great job gluing it together and capturing the the space.

Sounds good guys, it's got a nice raw feel to it.

Check out this cover of bad moon rising...  I listened to this band (lagwagon) alot as a teenager.   It's was the 1st thing I thought of listening to yours so I figured I'd share it.

@Philz - I promise to make you a version without all the Am's. I wonder if Mooch will dread the Am's?

@Janet - I was told @ 15 years old to sell my mic. It's kind of old habit to think I can't sing. Mooch says I can't sing. Mooch knows sing.

@Beagle - Just the crash seems hot? LOL! I was trying for the whole thing to be a tad hot. That's punk to me (lo-fi overdriven). Guess I failed? Have to ask Mooch.

@Herb - Thanks for the listen and the kudos.  Mooch shoudl be so nice to me.

@Tim - Great, I sound 'better' than a whale. I'm not sure Mooch would agree.

@Bub - I'm glad you caught the intended humor. Was it the Beatles snippet that got you? Mooch is gonna hate it.

@Scotty - That's wot we wuz borned to do. Punk out. I wish Mooch could punk out.

@Robby - AFAIK, you're the only one who has trouble with my personal site. Did Soundclick give you trouble? Thanks for stopping by. Mooch won't listen to either one.

@Scoobie - Thanks for the kind words.  That's what it's all about. Someone liking it. Mooch won't though.

@rhynosynth - Thanks. I worked the hardest on the Drums. But, you'll see; Mooch won't like them though.

@McQ - Ska Gaze is the last on your playlist? Are you usually asleep by then? Mooch would be.

@timidi - Thanks for listening. X-F or A-I? My singing was that bad huh? Mooch will agree I'm sure.

@mgh - Thanks for stopping by. But will it win Mooch over?

@ChuckC - Thanks for that link. All CCR covers from now should be done in Punk style. I wonder if Mooch agrees?

@Frank - Age is relative. If not for Dave our combined 'attitude' age is probably 13.9865387 years old. Mooch will say that's estimating too much on the high side.

@Tap - Thanks for the kind words. Mooch should be so kind.

@Mooch** - Oh wait.... he has not posted yet. Never mind.

**For the record I Am not obsessed with Mooch.

(hmmmmm I wonder where Mooch is?)

That was a cool addition to the song. I read somewhere that Rain is Ringo's favorite song they put out.

Did you know ... the last few seconds of the vocals in the original recording are backwards? ;) Here's John talking about it (Youtube clilp) I always wonder WTH "naaaair" meant. :)

Hey Bapu... not to sidetrack but if you like that you'll dig this.
Me first and the gimmie gimmies are a sort of super group of members of other fairly sucessful punk bands that put this project together and do nothing but covers in the punk style...  There are a ton of them but here are a few notables.

Wow, that was spot on to the orginal I couldn't even tell the difference!

I am a huge CCR fan and Have you Ever Seen the Rain brings back memories of my childhood.  This version seems to dredge up memories of my misguided teenage years though.

Neat vibe, it sounds like you guys were jamming together at a truely gnarley punk venue.  Bapu, do you have a green mohawk by any chance?

Nice job on the song and production

@blipp - Thanks for the kudos.

@Bub - Yeah, I knew that reverse thing the first time I heard the song (when it came out). Never knew it was Ringo's fav tho.

    @Grant - Thanks brother.

@maximumpower - I've got one or two ideas for covers not in the original form

@Wookiee - Made you laugh and smile? That's what it's all about, roight?

    @ChuckC - Thanks for links.

@Vincent - Lively was what I was shooting for. Thanks for listening.
