Sub on a floor? At McCue's place?
Oh behave.
:-)
To answer your question, Yes, but No.
Right now I have it sitting on an old set of cast iron wood stove legs. I keep it just off center. The center of the driver cone is about 24" off the floor. It is lower than the L/R speakers but not on the floor.
I have a bunch of 8 lb/cu ft. in the corners but I haven't really settled on the mix position location yet so I am really depending on the near field, direct impression where as I prefer some distance if I can get away with it.
Ideally I'd have enough distance that I could have the L/R pair and the sub far enough away that I could jog the sub to the left or right while preserving close time alignment for the direct wave. The effect on time alignment of jogging the sub off center is greater when you are up close to the array.
I'm trying to find a balance that is appropriate for the dimensions of the new room.
I tried working with the speakers 10' feet back, as is my preference... this room doesn't work for that. I hear to much room and not enough direct emphasis.
Thanks so much for letting me bounce ideas around with you.
Maybe I need another sub woofer? :-)
all the best,
mike
