Have you ever delt with this company - Seismic Audio?
My band has been hiring a production company for every gig for over a year to run sound & lights and while it is really nice to roll our amps off stage and head home as they are wrapping up cables and humping PA gear back out to their truck... it is expensive and takes a big cut of our money from each gig to have them. Then we did a gig at a club that was supposed to "have sound",they had one 8 ch powered mixer, and 2 speaker cabs with 2x15's and a horn in each, no monitors at all. At first we were like ehhh really? (we've gotten spoiled and used to big arse mains, subs, 5 monitors with individual mixes etc.) but we jumped in and said screw it. We ran 3 vox mics across the front, I put a spare 58' I brought with me on the kick for a little thump reinforcement and we ran our stage volumes up a bit louder than normal as the amps were not mic'd. People seemed to love it and my wife said that was one of here favorite shows since this band started because it wasn't so loud that it got unbearable like usual.... I was like what? It's really THAT loud most of the time? and she said absolutely. So we got to thinking maybe it's time to go back to running our own sound. I have a set of Sp2's, another set of older Peavey 115dl's as mains and one of the other guys in the band also owns two Sp4's. I have the board, amps to push these, etc. But if we are going to do this we need at least 4 floor monitors (either powered units or unpowered with amps), we want 2 subs -SPOILED! (either powered or with amp), then I also need a snake, assorted cables, a couple bars with some can lights (sound activated) and some other lazer lights for the flare we've become used to having. So we are going to be dropping some dough as a band for this list. I was looking around and this list gets to adding up $$$ wise pretty fast and I cam across this company http://www.seismicaudiospeakers.com/ It looks like they save money and keep costs low by not really advertising and having vendors all over but they have been in business a while and every review I found for both the company and the gear was glowing with praise. I checked a buch of sites including ebay, and amazon and it's all good feedback across the board. Seriously incredible prices on a lot of gear. Anyone here ever used them or their stuff? Thanks guys!

My limited experience with them was positive. I used them a couple of times for some cables. The stuff I got worked fine and it made well and was reasonably priced.

I hate to tell you this but your problem before was most likely the subs. Band tend to abuse low end and it washes out the rest. We play as a 4 piece ( Bass,Drums,Guitar and keys) We play old school 60's rock , blues and a touch of country rock. I use a set of Yamaha Birch plywwod 12" with a 2" Horn for mains, that's all!. We have some crappy Peavey 10" plastic boxes we use as side fill monitors. I have 2 350 watt @ 8ohm power amps,Yamaha and a Yorkville. I also have a 18" - 200watt powered sub for the kick and a touch of Bass and Keys.. The bass players amp ( 800Watts) is on 1 and it's still to loud. The 18" fattens his sound nicely. I use a 25 watt Fender Princeton and the Keyboard player has a small 100watt Yorkville keyboard amp. We run everything through the PA using 14 channels. It is plenty loud enough for medium halls and even outdoor party's. For most gigs this small system is great. We like using side fills as we clone the PA so we hear what you hear. I'm the singer and I can hear myself fine. On real big outside stages we add 2 wedges and I borrow a set of 15" Yamaha's that are the same series as mine ( 2" horn) Putting a bunch of 15" speakers with crappy horn drivers will not cut through, Modern line array systems if you study them use 12"x 2". To much low end makes you sound loud but not very clear. Put your money on good quality hi and Mid frequency output, not bass.

I looked at the web site. Aviod plastic, It bleeds back at you form the cabnet backs in a terrible way. Look for birch plywood. Also I don't see any mention of the horns, they are probably ony 1" or less. The Yamaha S112V or the S115V are my recomondation. For the money. Mine are 20 years old now. I have mixed recording with them they are that accurate!

Chuck.... The bands I have been in mostly built our systems one component at a time. Salvaging old speakers and even buying cheap radio shack 10"& 12" speakers to build our first home made monitor system. For a long time we used a 130W Kustom briefcase PA with 6 channels and 2 Kustom 1-15" w/ horn speaker cabs. However, as time went on and we made money, we eventually ended up with a tri-amped monster of a PA that could easily handle outside venues with ease. For your current situation, I would highly recommend CARVIN as a source of good quality gear. I have owned 2 amps and a power amp from them. I know several musicians who used carvin guitars and were extremely pleased. I just looked on their web site, because I remember them having package deals, and they still do. 4- Monitors, 1-amp, and all cables in one package price ($1350) http://www.carvinguitars.com/products/2004-1215M or just hit this home page and explore>>> http://www.carvinguitars.com/index.php Just search the site for more deals on monitors. As time went on with our band, we used those original Kustom cabinets for smaller gigs and on bigger gigs we used them as side fill monitors. We were pumping several thousand watts out the front end and enough on stage to hear easily. Of course, I have seem many bands now going with smaller PA systems. There's a lot to be said for traveling light.

It takes the right sound tech and equipment. I have friend that ran the sound system for Rock Crusher Canyon (Crystal River, Fl) and it was for big name acts both country (e.g. Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, etc) and rock bands. He had separate boards for the mains and monitors. I've worked about 5 jobs at Silver Springs Park (Ocala, Fl) at the main stage and they have two separate sound crews. One on stage running separate mixer board/amps for the stage monitors and another at the back of the audience running separte mixer board/power for the mains. I get the Seismic e-mail ads and most of the guitar or bass empty speaker cabinets are made from birch plywood.

Another cool option for monitors is the Aviom system. It is networked and allows each player to mix their own custom monitor mix..... to in ear or on floor monitors. I played in a church orchestra that used this Aviom system. Pretty cool.

I purchased a Seismic Audio 10u ATA flight case...super nice construction, 3/8 wood, front and rear rails, and the best part, 4 handles. Got it from an e-bay vendor. I would buy again but I don't think they make flight cases anymore :(
