Havin' a beer

Celebrating the last final for the semester that I took this evening. I am pretty sure I did poorly in this particular class (Medical Transcriptioning), but the other classes were all "A" or "B" at worst. These days a beer is a rare indulgence, I quit drinking a few years back, but I thought that since the semester was over, and the kitchen will be done this week, I could allow myself the extravagance.

Just wondering, this is that time of year, any graduates or others who are done with the school year for now?

I was the only male in the class, 16 college age young ladies and myself. Well about half of them are over 21, and they all were getting together at the local tavern for a few drinks, and they invited me. It really was not something to think about, all I had to do was....call my wife and tell her I would be a little late getting home, as I had to go out with a bunch of college girls and have a few drinks....what could be the problem with that?

So, I stopped and picked up a cold case of Yuengling Lager (bottles, no cans here), made in America's oldest brewery (says so right on the label), and relaxed and watched "Dancing With The Stars"(still convulsing) with the wife, and then headed down to the studio.

Life is good.

Congratulations on finishing school, Albert.  Way to go!  I'm sure it was tough having to put up with all those young women every day too.

I'm not graduating or anything, but our last day of school is tomorrow. I still work almost full time during the summer at odd jobs (some are odder than others), but I still love summer.  I'm hoping the weather will cooperate before long and start to ACT like summer.

    Very cool story Albert. Indeed!

Glad you made it through the class... probably hard to keep your focus at times.....

Yeah it's graduation time around here.....my oldest is graduating, I've already been playing advance tuition to college and she heads out into the world in August.

Congrats Albert!  I too have finished classes (last week) and am happy they are over for now.  I'm taking 2 classes at a local community college and it's really tough leaving work for a couple of hours a day then trying to make that time back up at work!

my classmates also had a party at the house of one of them, but I didn't go because it was right after my wife's surgery and I needed to be home with her instead of drinking with the co-eds!

I hope you and the girls all find work soon!

Way to go Albert!  You are such a gentleman accompanying those 16 young ladies out for a drink....and you even let your wife know....paid your penance watching "Dancing with the Stars".

Seriously, I'm very happy for you and glad it is over.  The kitchen looks amazing as well.  So, definitely celebrate.

Nutty..... my understanding was that Albert declined the pub, electing instead to pick up a case of Yuengling Lager and headed home to spend time with his wife....  I might be reading it wrong....

That decision was a no-brainer.....I doubt that his wife (like my wife) would have appreciated one bit if he had gone to the pub with the ladies....... the only thing I would disagree with was the choice of Lager...... my choice would have been Sam Adams Boston Lager... but that's a small point in the big picture.... Albert made the right choice..... I think.

But the best part of Albert's post, to me, is reminding me of the importance of getting an education.
There are young, single women there.

    .

I am an old dude, 55 and gray. The field of medicine in the community college is mostly support, nurse aides, office personnel. The doctors and registered nurses are all in the real universities. So that means that most of the people enrolled in these classes are....young and...female. Add in the fact that for the last two months it was unseasonably warm here, and, well, I start realizing that I am not really that old. And since I am as old as most of their fathers, they seemed to like me, they trusted me, kinda forgot that I was in the room when the discussions started up. Very...I'm looking for the right word, can't seem to find it.

One more semester, starting at the end of summer, maybe two months of warm weather, and then the shorts start getting longer, the shirts grow sleeves, heavier materials, then the jackets and then the winter gear....

I'm doing this for my wife, right? To provide a better life, good paychecks for the next twenty years, right?

    To be 20 again....

Sounds like it was tough, Albert.

That sorta reminds me of a few years ago when both my boys were in college and living with or near us.  We'd often have a house full of young guys in the house.  And since I was as old as their mothers, it was sorta funny the things they'd talk about around me.  Like, I wasn't a woman...just a mom.  lol

    Avuncular?

Alright, I'll admit it, I had to look that one up. And it is exactly the right word for that situation. Thanks, dude, for the expansion of my vocabulary. I think I need to commit that one to memory, I may be using it quite a bit in the near future.

    You're welcome.
It's a good word. You're probably old enough to be their father's older brother.
