You have to choose an output for the preview.

If you are in the browser in the... er... browser then there's an arrov pointing downwards on the browser tab. Click this and select output in the preview bus section.

Alternatively - and because my description isn't very good - check out the video about the browser and preview function here: http://cakewalk.com/CakeTV/SONARU.aspx/Go-Deeper

IT's called "Browser - Exploring the Depths"

the preview bus is the second thing they show you.

    I am using the Focusrite
Saffire Pro 24 DSP and did select the monitor output that I usually select. When I pull the loops to make a new track then they playback on the same monitor selection.
Still not in the preview browser.

I'm not sure I understand, are you saying that you have selected a working output for your browser's preview bus but still doesn't get any sound? I'm not talking about tracks, the browser will only output to a bus.

As far as I can see the browser will also output to an output on the sound card as well.  I will try some more settings to see what happens.

I tried different settings. On a few of my recordings the browser gave no audio, and did so on the other ones. After trying all the settings it started working again. Now I can put the setting to my sound card and it works for now.

You're right, I forgot about that - it can send to both buses and main outs

Hmmm... funny it suddenly started working. I haven't had any problems with the browser preview since X1a I think, and I use it a lot everyday. Perhaps a hickup. Who cares as long as it work Let's hope it stays that way

as projectm has stated just make a new bus and send the browser to that, this way you can control the browser with a fader.

just remember to send the browser to that fader(using the dropdown menu in the browser where it says: output

    Windows 8.1 X64 Sonar Platinum x64
    Custom built: Asrock z97 1150 - Intel I7 4790k - 16GB corsair DDR3 1600 - PNY SSD 220GB
Focusrite Saffire 18I8 - Mackie Control
