Health Problems: My Indiegogo Campaign
Well, I'm an uninsured musician who's been diagnosed with some nasty business. I can't pay for the treatment, so I created an indiegogo campaign. If you have the time, please read my story. Thank you. Copy/Paste this link please: http://igg.me/p/253939?a=1614495

Sorry to hear that...you can get something like that from an air conditioner? That scares the bejesus out of me...I read something recently about how unhealthy AC can be and it's worried me ever since. The manufacturers should make it easier to clean the things inside and out. I also use a humidifier in the winter and the nozzle that shoots the water particles out is forever getting moldy. You really have to keep an eye on this stuff. Did the hospital and/or surgeon not offer you some kind of discount given that you'll be paying for it yourself? 6 years ago I was diagnosed with skin cancer and was uninsured. The hospital (Bellevue in New York) were really helpful, offered to tailor a payment plan to my financial situation, and put me in contact with a charity that offers financial help to uninsured cancer patients. But what really blew me away was the surgeon, a Dr. Berman, who took pity on me and shaved thousands off his usual fee for the surgery. I guess I just got lucky. All in all it cost me over $10,000 that I couldn't really afford, but it was the best money I ever spent in my life considering what would have happened if it spread. Good luck with the fundraising!

OK, done. Dale, I have a friend in Austin, guitarist... Paul Snare. Good guy. You should look him up. He hosted a SE Jam in Atlanta when he lived here. It was associated with the old HCGF (harmony central guitar forum) or the current guitardiner.com all the more "mature" people left HCGF 10+ years ago and though it has gone through several incarnations the core group, mostly, is still at guitardiner.com, a small but good group of folks. You will get what you need. @Beagle... My prayers are with you as well. may you be healed completely! +1 Julien

you can get something like that from an air conditioner? I had my units serviced and cleaned last spring. I was concerned that I might have one of the newer "efficient" units with the coils made from recycled aluminum. Thankfuly, the serciceman said they are copper. Aluminum is OK but recycled aluminum, used in an "energy efficient" configuration is BAD. The "efficient" coils are coiled much closer together, harder to get to and clean but really none of that is really what matters. The problem is that recyced aluminum is slightly porous, little holes so small that you cannot see them and if they get the mold on them, the one that causes "dirty cock syndrome"... you can clean the coil all you want but it will always come back because 1: you can't get to it to clean it right and 2: even if you could clean it, you can never get all the mold out of the microscopic holes... the only way to fix it is to replace the coil. I had a little bit of it but they were able to clean it away. You notice it the first couple of times you turn the heater on in the fall... it smells like dirty socks and isn't good for you. Some fungi are good for your head... some are not. J

I am very sorry to hear this man. I hope you will be alright.. Have you thought about medicaid? and have you contacted the hospital's social workers? I know somebody who got a bone tumor cat-scanned, and biopsied at zero cost, because of his money situations.. Lucky for him, it turned out to be nothing.. and not bone-marrow cancer.. Also.. Because my non-music day job has some ties to the health-care industry.. I suggest dialing 211 and seeing what kind of organizations are around town, to give care to the uninsured and needy.

Ah. I think that's what a guy I used to work with had. If it's the same thing it's minor but necessary surgery. I hope you raise the dough. You really should look into any and all government or charitable healthcare options available or at least borrow some money. It sucks but best to nip it in the bud or it could cost WAY more. Cheers.

sharke--> Thank you. Some people are affected heavily by mold because they are allergic to it, and others seem to be immune. Studies show that nasal polyps are linked to asthma and cystic fibrosis, so there is some underlying genetic predisposition to the condition. If you've been exposed to mold, then you should definitely get checked out by a physician. I moved out of the house that had the mold and into an apartment with central air. The unit here is brand new and totally clean. You can bet that I'll be keeping an eye on it regularly. That's amazing that the doctor did that for you. The rate I've posted for the surgery is the discounted rate. If I can qualify for the government's PCIP insurance, then the cost of my care will drop. Rain-->Thank you. Beagle-->Thank you. It is much appreciated. I'm planning on getting healed. /thumbs up jbow-->Thank you. Thanks to people like you, I am getting what I need. Linear Phase-->Thank you. I'm waiting to hear back from the local health and human services office about medicaid. Old55-->Thank you. Crg-->You have to copy/paste the link. I tried to get it to work here on the forum, but it didn't. I'll put a note on it. Beepster-->Thank you. Actually, because of how bad my condition is, it's a major surgery. Triple or more time needed than the average, hence the cost. The CT scan showed 100% blockage from top to bottom, and it looks like a sea urchin is trying to work its way out of my sinuses and down the back of my throat. I'm filling out every form and contacting every agency I can find. The solution is already there, I just have to find it. Thank you everyone for your kind words, encouragement, and donations. If you have the time, please share the link to my indiegogo campaign on your facebook or twitter. The more traffic and referrals generated, the closer I get to being on the front page, and the closer I get to having my surgery. -Dale

Good luck to you! (Unfortunately I'm getting a short-term loan from a friend to cover my rent so I can't help out right now.) I've had issues with mold before. Here's a picture that might look familiar, it's what they did to my living room while getting rid of the mold (I had a few short Mexicans wearing spacesuits running around for about a week - I'm sorry but I couldn't stop laughing).

I wanted to say thank you to everyone that's contacted me and contributed so far. I'm at the half-way point for the down payment that will get me the surgery I need. Thank you. Sincerely. If you would like to help, please post the link to my campaign on your social media such as facebook or twitter. The referral traffic keeps me at a higher ranking, which means more people see my page. The more visits, the more donations I get. I went from page 54 to page 6 in just three days. Thank you.

It was such a relief! I owe that guy a beer... Unfortunately, we found out today that we have to pay the doctor and the anesthesiologist up front, so the goal for the down payment has moved to 6,469.00. But...I cannot complain. Less than a week ago I felt like I had zero options, and now I have a good chunk covered, and still ten days to go. I have my hope back, which is something I had lost. Thank you for the encouragement everyone.
