Heartbreak Kid ----- Original by Craig Wilkins
Hi Folks, I finished up this song recently and wanted to share it with you. I wrote it many years ago but with all these new toys (Daw, Computer and plugins) I felt like Robin and I could do it justice. This is our first Duet together. It's a little bit campy and I hope you like it. https://soundcloud.com/us..66430027/heartbreak-kid Craig

Thanks Rik, I strive to play for the song with the leads. Long drawn out leads are pretty hard to listen too unless you're Peter Frampton, Joe Walsh, Eric Johnson, Eric Clapton or.. Neil Schon or etc etc..... What are you hearing in the intro bass that you're not liking? Craig

Hi Craig, on my crappy speakers the bass sounds way too loud and they can't take it ; ) Rik

Nice song! Everything about it is just really well done. But the guitar leads and vocals stood out for me the most, great stuff. And those harmonies sound so good...

Thanks Dan..... I lucked out with this one.... Have you ever redone a mix and after the 15th one from scratch over a period of months you stumble upon one that sounds better than anything else you've done to date? This happened to me with this song. I have gone back over it several times to try and figure out how I got to the end result and I actually can't really pin point it other than it's combination of many factors to reach the end result. ....This mix has a better balance and a subtle heaviness than all the rest I've done. It's still a little harsh on the high mids but at this point I'm gonna leave it alone and try and get better a mixing on something else. I'll take a stab at refining the high mid harshness in the future. Craig

One thing I have learned, very painfully I might add, is that there is no one thing that will make a mix good. It's all about subtle tweaks that slowly build up into a whole. Between that and learning to leave plenty of headroom in your mixes, it is definitely an art form. I don't completely redo mixes as much as I used to because I now can hear where to make little changes (and corrections) before I let a mix go completely off the rails, but it has taken years to learn how to hear it. Regards, Dan

Your range is incredible...I'm amazed you've gone through life without someone discovering it! Good luck with everything.
