Hello! Drums pane - piano roll question.

Hello everyone! My name is Dimi Nalbantov.
I'm product specialist for Kuassa plugins developer.
A few days back downloaded Cakewalk By BandLab
and exploring the full potential of the DAW.
I have a little experience with Cakewalk in the past working with Cakewalk 3 and Audio 9.
Currently I'm learning all the great tools and have plans to port all these tones /video is down below in the post/ for Cakewalk
Using our amp sims and the Pro Channel, also the stock reverb, delay and other effects if needed.

I have a simple question. Is it possible to permanently hide the piano roll keys pane?
As you see on the screenshot, I have selected a drum map.
Every time I open the piano roll, the keys pane opens like that, down below and need to hide it manually from the
drum pane.

Thank you!
Dimi

Hi Dimi,

I have tried to tackle your question simply because this is the kind of thing that drives me nuts.  I have two suggestions:

1)  Try creating a Screenset locked in the preferred layout.  I haven't tried this but it's worth a shot;

2)  I created a project template (a little more encompassing that just a screenset).  In the PT I first created a drum map under the Preferences|MIDI|Drum Map Manager section.  I then inserted a drum VSTi (Studio Instrument Drums will do) just as a place holder.  You can later Replace Synth to another VSTi of your choice or just use that as the drum VSTi in your template.  Note that when I inserted the VSTi, I did so with a MIDI source track and corresponding audio tracks checked and NOT a Simple Instrument Track.  I then sent the new MIDI (drum) track's output to the previously created drum map.  After that (with MIDI data or a loop clip inserted) I opened the PRV and dragged the Piano Key Pane down so that just the Drum Pane (or Drum Roll, get it?) is shown.  I then saved this as a Screenset (just in case) and then saved the project as a project template.  Now this is pretty cumbersome and you may say, "But I don't want to create two separate projects just for this,"...but once your template is saved you can drag it into any open project (whether saved or not) from the Media Browser and the two will magically merge into one project (the one that is open, not a new project).

Sorry it isn't a simple fix, but it works.

Kind regards,

Hey DIMI,

Forget my long winded suggestion.  It didn't quite work the way I thought.  It does work if you open the Drum Template first and then drag in an existing project into it.  Maybe not all is lost.

I have a project template that I have been using for a while that seems to work for this. Do just as tecknot described above but before you save the template you must lock the screenset.

Hope this works for you.

I've never hear from this and it doesn't work for me, how do you do that exactly?

Thanks,
Bassman.

Yeah, it's a "known" feature added a long time ago (not sure what version).  You can combine any cwp/cwt projects together.  Just drag and drop it from the Browser into the Track Pane (either the Track View with the 'music' portion or in the Pane where the track controls are).  Works for me every time.

Sorry Bassman.  Let me break it down a bit... You have a project open.  You then have the idea of adding work you've done in an earlier project.  Instead of copying everything from one project to another, open the Media Browser, find the project on your storage drive, click and hold the name of that desired project and drag it into the Track View/Pane of your new project.  All material and settings will merge with your existing project.  Note, it doesn't have to be a new project, it can be two older projects, but one of them has to be open while the other is dragged and dropped into the open project.

Give it a shot and if you need any clarification or help, hit back and I'll do what I can.

Kind regards,

HI:)

@tecknot

The only thing that is merged into an existing File, are the clips from the Template file, no screensets, I've tried with locked and unlocked screensets, so where's the trick??

I do this very often with older files:

1. Go to Preferences
2. allow to open more than one file
3. make a new file or open any newer file
4. go to the other file in Splat
5. Go to Screensets and import screensets from the newer one
6. close the newer file
7. go to preferences
8. allow not to open more than one files

So If were possible to just drag and drop the screensets in the old file, it would be nice, but I don't know how to do that, it doesn't work for me:(

Thanks;)
Bassman.

Is there any chance to collaboration between KUASSA and Bandlab to see some integration of your guitar plugins or effects?)

Re: Hello! Drums pane - piano roll question. 2018/04/11 14:43:15 (permalink)
Bassman, combining two projects as I described above does not include Screensets or any other (project specific) settings made in the second project that is being added.  As you are aware, Screensets are project specific.  If you want to transfer/copy/integrate the Screensets of one project into another simply use the Import Screenset option within the primary (current working project).  Of course, keep in mind that you must have the other project which contains the desired Screensets also open.  So, if you combined both projects via drag and drop, open the project just merged over and then toggle back to your current project and do the Screenset Import (then you can just close the older project, doing the merge does not delete/remove the older project it is still there just as it was when last saved).  Easy and simple.

Hope that clarifies and improves your workflow.  If not, I am still here to take your questions.

Kind regards,

tecknot
P.S.  I always have "Allow Only One Open Project..." unchecked.  I can see that this option would prevent accidental edits to the wrong project, but if a second project is open temporarily, I just close it immediately after I done getting what I need from it.  Adding extra steps of unchecking and rechecking Preferences just adds more to your workflow which I try to avoid.

Hi:)

@tecknot

Aah, I misunderstood this! So just do it the other way, make a template of the new project and drag it into the one with the good screenset ones:)
