Yes, and I don't doubt Noel's intention.  The big question is whether or not it will actually be in his power to make it happen.

Hi Jon... true, nothing is guaranteed until it's actually done. In my initial post, I did mention looking at other options in addition to SONAR is a good idea. I've done that myself.

One other thing about the "if the servers are down we'll provide a fix" thing is, we've been told they really couldn't just email blast everyone (because not everyone's email is current, because email blasts can be treated like spam, for whatever reason) to let us know of the closing of Cakewalk. So if there is trouble reaching us - how will they get the fix to us?

I hope Noel has these issues in the plan to resolve, too.

Sonar Platinum, Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, Intel NUC micro-workstation with 5th Gen Intel i5-5250U, 16 GB RAM and 1.25 TB Storage, Yamaha MG10XU Mixer USB Interface, Yamaha HPH-MT8 Monitor Headphones, Yamaha MX-49 controller synth

One area of confusion so far is that I thought that Studio One doesn't have native MIDI in-built and as I got rid of the demo, I can't remember without re-installing it.  However others have said that Studio One does support MIDI.

This is sort of true.  Somewhere in the blurb PreSonus make a point of saying S1 doesn't have midi.  It may be the case that it does not natively support external midi devices, but it works fine with controllers via usb (maybe they reworked the protocols).  Anything in software (VST/VSTi) is no problem, and whatever it's doing it looks the same.

What I do noticed though is whereas midi events typically ranged from 0-127, these are now expressed in true decimal 0-100.  Which is odd - effectively the 'new' improved version has a lower level of granularity, having only 101 steps of expression rather than 128.

Studio One 3 Pro, (Sonar Platinum), Intel i7, Win10 Pro, 32Gb ram, RME Babyface Pro, Behringer X-Touch, Presonus Faderport, Akai MPK49, Arturia KeyLab25, KRK Rokit 5 monitors, and other sonic surprises.

No idea on that one, John. It may be up to the users to check the Cakewalk site to stay informed.

Yep, it works with external hardware... https://support.presonus.com/hc/en-us/articles/210044153-Studio-One-How-do-I-setup-a-hardware-keyboard-synthesizer-in-Studio-One-
