Got this issue too. Just bought a used Maschine MK2 unit, works fine in standalone mode and inside Reaper, but I experience the same display bug in Sonar. Now, peculiar thing is that my installed Sonar version is the latest PRE-Bandlab version (I never bothered to update yet because you know, deadlines to meet, consistency, etc), so it means this bug was introduced before Cakewalk became Bandlab.

So I’ve had NI support once again email me back about this issue. Each email is very basic and recently asked me to send back the NI report tool which collects system info in a zip file. They have received this and their reply was not comforting. Basically it’s been looked as a bug and thats it. . I have had a similar email regarding a different issue with NI and that was 8 months ago and still not resolved so I fear the same with this one.

Here is a copy of the latest email reply from NI regarding hardware not working with Komplete VST within Sonar/platinum or Cbb.

“We have documented this bug (KBDSW-5802) in our bug tracking system. Hopefully, your information will be taken into account in the upcoming bug fixes. Unfortunately, for now, this is all we can do. Therefore, we would assume to close this email thread.”

It's either NI or Windows. At least, that's what I'm thinking. Mind you, I have no real understanding of how all of this works. So, take my speculation with a grain of salt.

But, if it were a Bandlab issue, then Sonar Platinum should still work with Maschine, right?

Sucks that NI aren't treating this with any real urgency. They've all but acknowledged the issue resides within THEIR products.

Time to start divesting my setup of NI products. This is redicullous. I was going to buy their keyboard controller towards Christmas. I liked what I was seeing with the whole NKS thing. But, not now. I'd rather have a "dumb" controller that won't let me down in a pinch. Or, if it does, it's not going to cost me an arm and a leg to replace.

It's either NI or Windows. At least, that's what I'm thinking. Mind you, I have no real understanding of how all of this

That is NI by definition: there is NI hardware and NI software which communicate with each other using proprietary (for NI), absolutely undocumented technologies. They do not tell how they do this even to DAW developers.
And exactly this communication is broken. So no one except NI (!), not only for technical but also for legal reasons can investigate what in Sonar/CbB/Windows/etc. prevent NI to work properly.

Cakewalk can investigate the question only from the perspective which change in libraries has happened between the version which works and the very first version which does not. Experienced users can partially do that as well: compare the list of DLL dependencies for these 2 versions of Sonar. Only partially since there could be some other changes. All that is almost random shooting into air, NI has debug version of own VST which can immediately display what the problem is once they install CbB (which is free to download). Companies which care about users solve such problems within an hour, or at least tell they know what the problem is (in case for administrative reason it takes 1-2 days to fix).

Heard from Bandlab. Basically, they're working on it. They said hopefully it will be fixed soon but did not give any definitive timeline.

Hi Michael,

Thank you for your support tool results. I will reach out as soon as we can provide you with a permanent solution.

In the meantime, the only workaround I can provide you would be to downgrade to a previous version.

Thank you for your patience.
Best regards,

As mentioned in a previous post -  the latest version of sonar I have found to work with Maschine was the Newburyport release which came out a couple of years ago

and this is all the devs should need to know - they can compare the codebase of newburyport with later versions to find the difference causing the issue... that it hasn't been fixed yet implies it's not entirely straight forward or has knock-on effects on other bits of the app or isn't getting priority in the sprint planning
i'm sure it'll get sorted at some point though

MS Visual Studio used for building:
Newburyport (aka 21.13.0.32 ) - MSVCx120 / VS 2013
---- (next version) ---
2016.03 (aka 22.3.0.71)
and  CbB 2018.4 (aka 24.04.1) - MSVCx140 / VS 2015 - VS 2017

So, after Newburyport Cakewalk has switched to VS 2015.

Interesting that REAPER (latest version) and Waveform 8 are NOT linked with MS runtime the same way. They do not show these dependencies, at least not in "old" tool I am using (Dependency Walker). Ableton 8 Lite was build using some archaic VS. I do not have other hosts to try.

And while that is pure speculation (I have not checked details what that means for using different versions of MS 140, multi-runtime is supported but participating programs should follow some rules), may be that somehow trigger NI failure (incompatible runtime API is called when it tries to speak with hardware)...

A quick fix might be to roll back to previous version of Windows 10.

Here is a link to the Windows 10 1709 Fall Creators Update, which was released in September 2017. It is still in Microsoft support, and should be safe to use. But you need to turn of auto update:

http://windowsiso.net/windows-10-iso/windows-10-creators-update-1709-download-build-16299-15/windows-10-fall-creators-update-1709-iso-download/

Here is a link i got from NI about the subject:

Update, on the rollback to older Windows.

For me, I had deleted the older Windows to save space.
And by that I cannot roll back to the previous version without a clean install.
That means spending a day installing NI Komplete Ultimate 10/11 and Toontrack SD3.

The rest of the system is working great, so I can’t do that without being sure it will work.

Does anyone of you have the ability to rollback to previous Windows in the Settings?

I rolled back a few patches two weeks or so back, I didn't go back as far as September but I think I did the March ones which didn't help at all, mainly because I didn't fancy reinstalling everything if it all turned nasty

Does it say in [Settings - System - About – Windows - specifications]  Version Windows 10 (and or  Pro), Version 1803 or 1709? It has do say 1709 to have any effect in this.

I just did the ones that looked like they might have been VC redistributable related as that was the theory at the time. I think I'd be too cowardly to try to roll back to the creators update, based solely on reinstall time if it all went awry

Yeah right. I dont have the option to let Windows do the rollback by itself, so i dont want to jumt into in this computer. I might try another later today.

Has anyone had any success with trying the Windows 10 rollback, yet?

I'm getting tired of Studio One 4. Ready to come home, now.

Sorry for delay. But I did test it now on my Surface Pro MK1 and it works. No problem with connecting and showing all info, browse for sounds and so on. I took some pictures but I thought now that it is not necessary.

It works!

That PC was the Windows 10 1709 Fall creators update.

Problem is, that I had to turn upgrades on hold to make it stay on this build. Or I couldn’t find a option to make it stay. So, if you go back to this build, you might need to pull out the internet cable or turn of WiFi.
