I can just see the forum posts now.............

Probably not FBB -  even I, the OP, am getting tired of this thread.

Setting up a "normal" template with screensets is the best way.  It is the fastest way and does not require importing.

A problem I discovered last night is that when I have the staff view as a screenset and work in it, and then go to another screenset, when I go back to the staff view the staffs that are visible do not correspond to the track names in the track pane (right side of staff view).  Also, there is gibberish on the screen where the staff pane should be that appear to be remnants of other screensets.  I tried this on two different computers with two different operating systems and graphics cards, so it is definitely a bug in X1.

What is interesting is that these problems do not occur when using ordinary VIEWS, rather than screensets.

So i opened an older project last night and hit my 4 key to take me to the mixer and it went to the matrix or something.  I did this project before i set up my templates and screensets.  Long story short I could have actually used the global screensets at that point.

The June edition of Sound On Sound apparently has an article on screensets. I haven't seen it and I don't subscribe, but it's available here
http://www.soundonsound.com/search?url=%2Fsearch&Section=8&Subject=64

at $1.49 for those that don't subscribe or don't want to buy the whole mag.

Apologies if it's been mentioned, I haven't read the whole thread.

Assuming you've set up your SS in your normal template open the old project, start a new one and then select import from the screenset menu. Takes seconds. I'm all for having global as an option but please make it an option. I don't want one change in one project affecting every other project.

Screensets are "per project only".  They are not global.  So how do you get them into each new project you start?  If you've found a way without importing them,ol pal, you've found the holy grail.  Can you detail how you saved and restore them?

I haven't used them that much so I don't know, but can't you set up a template with screen sets already setup and then when you start the new project, they are ready to go?

I don't get it - There it is again, the bit of opening a project to import its Screensets. --Saving a customized Normal file sure gets the job done more easily. You just open up Sonar and start working--- Why is the advice given so often that you have to have multiple projects open--?

This is how you import them into a project that doesn't have them. If you start all of your projects with template like you do, then you don't need this step.

I'd say all the ways to manage these has been stated.

But A1, surely after you made your first normal you later improoved it or added to it, and will again, and again.  Then the only way to reap the benefits of the improvements in existing projects is to import.  If that's the case, then you do need this step.

I'm thinking the way to go is create a dummy project called "My Best Screensets", and keep that up to date, then import it's Screensets when needed.

But I'd rather a Screenset Manager with better tools and would allow me to apply any SS to any projects.

Great point, one which I maybe would have thought of if I evened used screensets.

I do agree though that some sort of screenset manager is needed.

Yea I don't think "global" should be the only option.  You should be able to choose.  But the idea of a SS Manager is a darn good one.
