Help! Possible Reggae gig...

OK...through a wierd series of events I may be doing a keyboard gig for reggae band. I like reggae everytime I hear it but don't really consider myself a fan enough to know a lot about playing it. Listening to the songs of the group it seems pretty simple off-beat triad playing on 3 or 4 chord songs....fun to dance to tho'. Is the sound typically an electric piano sound? Any musical advice on Reggae appreciated.
I also need to figure out if my wife's laptop can run DimPro(I don't have a live gig keyboard...I am a bassist/guitarist primarily....) What's the best low-latency laptop audio interface out there right now?

Heck...I may not evven get the gig but I'd at least like to not look foolish if I do get an audition...

Best,

AndyW

    Hey Andy,

That's a bit of a big ask without knowing what flavour, but for a DIY crash course here's an amazing set of midi's that outline the individual 'roles' that are generally played out in an authentic sounding set-up so you can hear (and analyze) what's going on. Basically there is commonly a brite piano sound in unison with the 'skanking' guitar and highlighting the melody and usually a rhythmic organ part with a legato organ part as well serving the basis of the 'sound'. Of course there may be a synth providing the melody and or lead parts too.

Some of the more traditional piano and organ sounds have migrated to synths and pads over the years but structurally even in more modern dancehall music them basic elements are all pretty much still there....so with that in mind.

Look for this collection on the page as it covers a lot of ground (quickly) and were actually done by a keyboard player.

SURE DREAD - MELODIC REGGAE which can be found here.

Hey you could even check out 'The Liquidator' on my Soundclick page which is pretty era authentic and faithfull to the original...

I can play along with the first 3 songs pretty easily. Looks like e piano and organs.

I'll definitely check out the link you posted. ThanX much!

I may be a lucky man...It looks like the internal Realtek works at low latency(128) with ASIO4All...more testing needed(especially *longevity* tomorrow...)

If that doesn't end up being reliable, I just had a "duh" moment...I have a UX2 hooked up to my DAW so I can run PODfarm(but don't use any of the audio features) that would probably work.

    Andy

I've just posted my Asio4All recipe setup again on the producer forum so it should be high up on my profile recent thread list.

I use it all the time with the Realtek and it works like a charm, in fact Noel popped in on an earlier discussion we we're having about it and stated that he's spent a lot of time with 8 getting it working well with the HD Audio codec. It works with 7 therefore 8 should be even better and I've gotten my latency down to around 140 samples (1.5ms @ 44100) with a soft-synth playing back 10 midi tracks along with a stereo audio track and it tracks lovely.

btw I put my 'Liquidator' track back up after I'd sent you there and realised I'd previously taken it down...

edit: to correct a 'senior moment'

I've got a laptop with Realtek that I usually use a Traveler on.

What would ASIO4all do for the Realetk?

Just curious... because the Realtek isn't that bad but it's stuck at 16bit.

What kind of advantage do you hope to get?

    best regards,
    mike
