Help! Problem with MC 6- Can't select synth channel output!

Hi,

I recently upgraded from MC 5 and I can't change MIDI track output to a different channel of the soft synth, there is no option on the track output menu other than Channel 1.  Is this just a glitch?  I need help with a workaround if that's the case.

Thanks!,

Josh

no, that's not normal and it doesn't make sense.   what is the OUTPUT of that MIDI track set to?

Above TRACK 1 there are 2 boxes. One has one rectangle in it and the other has four in it. Click the one with 4. That expands the track inspector and allows you to see all teh properties in the tracks.

In the midi tracks, you can now see the input, output, channel, bank and patch.

I just set up TTS in audio track one.  with Midi in the next 3 tracks. some misc notes in the midi tracks I assigned the outputs to TTS.
In the channel I sent track 2 to TTS channel 1...... track 3 to TTS channel 2.......track 4 to TTS channel 3.

Then in the patch (didn't touch the banks) I randomly selected 3 different patches, applying a different one to each midi track.

Hit play.... waaa laaa... it worked fine.

I'm thinking the 4 button thing is what you're needing to click on to give you the ability to see the channel assignment boxes.

No it still doesn't work , the only option available in the oputput menu is the TT1 1 channel.  This problem exists when I start a brand new song also.  Maybe I have a screwy global option chosen?  What does your soft synth options menu look like?

OK...write out the process you are doing step by step.... and include screenshot photos  if you can.

That way, we can kinda see what you're doing and how it's being done and look into the computer with the screen shots.

Start with a new project and insert TTS as the synth. Go from there.....

Are you changing the channel in the MIDI track or trying to change the output in the MIDI track? To change the channel, you need to, well, change the channel.
To change the output, you need to insert another instance of TTS-1 or other soft synth so there will be something to change the output to.

You can see that the MIDI track's channel is 10 and the output is TTS-1 1. Inserting another instance of TTS-1 will give you the additional output of TTS-1 2.

    As Greg shows above.....

the input is set to OMNI..... or all/any broadcasting midi channel ..... the output from the midi keyboard

the next down.... O is the output of the midi track and where it is being directed. In this case to TTS-1 Clicking the white arrow on the right of the pane will open up a window that has ALL of the possible output destinations....(other synths in the project synth rack)

Below that is CH... the channel the output is broadcasting on. In this case it is set to 10 the midi default drums.  So In TTS-1 this mid track will go to TTS-1 channel 10 and play the drum sounds.  If that was changed to CH1... and the default was left as is in TTS-1, you would hear a piano sound.....unless you were to go down a bit further in the track inspector to the PATCH pane and choose a different sound.

So here's a screenshot of what I get.  Note no 3rd selection box for the channel selection.

Then when I open up the output box here's what it looks like.

Where is the channel selection?  What do I not get?

I figured it out, finally.  Thanks for everybody's help, I found the channel selection by clicking the "display"  tab, selecting sends/bankpatch, then clicking the "MIDI' tab below the slider view of the track and then selecting the channel up top.  I don't understand why Xakewalk had to totally redo the interface with this version, it's like I have to relearn everything.

yep.  I was going to actually suggest you click on that little icon just to the left of the time display.  notice the icon that's "lit" is one square and the one next to it is 4 squares.  for cakewalk X1 type software that means "some" display and "ALL" display respectively.
