Help! Sonar X1 and delta44

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone can help? I have recently installed sonarX1, previously been using cubase, I have a delta44 set up, which sonar picks up however no matter what combination I try I can't get any sound out. I only have one speaker plugged in to out 1 on the delta for now as my monitors are bust and I have selected out 1 on sonars options as the audio output but I'm not getting any sound back, on the delta control panel it's not picking it up either as the volume bar is staying flat under out 1.
I'm running windows xp, won't be ale to upgrade as I don't have access to internet on my studio pc.

Anyone know the correct setup in sonar to get a delta44 to work with it? I just have the one speaker plugged into out1.

Any help would be great as I have been banging my head against a wall with this all day!!

Many thanks

The outputs on the Delta44 (which I've used for probably 10 or more years now), are line level outputs and need to be plugged into an amplifier in order to be heard. So unless you have active (powered) monitors, they are not going to be audible. You can't plug headphones into them either. They must be amplified.

matt , in your pref's you have other soundcards listed as in  / out ?

say I wanted to use my Delta in ASIO mode, I'd untick the samson / sw1000 in BOTH input and output..
then apply, then switch it to ASIO mode in the other second in preferences. have you done that?

also in your delta panel, you have the routing right ? not sure about the 44.. is there a "main" out that it is routed to as I know on mine you can specify another channel.

check that firstly.. is there options for only digital out etc as well ? I'd make sure that it wasn't a config error first.

    Matt141007,
I use Sonar X1d with a Delta 44 soundcard, and I have it set up this way:
    1. I use the Delta card connected to a 4 in/4 out breakout box
    2. FRom sonar, go to Edit/Preferences/Audio/Devices and check off Delta 44 1/2 and
Delta 44 3/4 for both input and output drivers.
    3. I use the WDM driver mode
    4. From the breakout box, I have a stereo line level cable going from the 1/2 outputs to a
        mixer.
    5. From the mixer, I have the monitor outs going to powered monitors.

The other comments above are important. The signal out is line level 0dB only, so you need to either send the output to powered speakers, or to a mixer first.

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit but sometimes other apps will turn off the windows volume
slider as well, so check that out too.

One last thing: I used to use a M-Audio interface called the OMNI I/O instead of the
breakout box. If you can afford a $200-300 interface, ditch the breakout box. But still, the
monitor outs on the interface are 0dB and still require powered speakers, or a powered
    mixer setup.

Don't give up - its worth the effort. The Delta 44 card is awesome. I just hate the GUI mixer
that comes with the software driver. But its okay.

    Thanks everyone for the comments,

The speaker I have connected through the delta is an active speaker as in it has it's own power supply and has Been working fine hrough applications such as cubase so I think (and I may be wrong) it could be the current settings in sonarx1. I have checked th general windows volume settings they also seem fine and when I also go into the sonar prefs the only sound card listed is the delta, it does however have an option for delta multiple ins/ outs or delta 1/2 or 3/4. I have tried on a number of settings but still getting nothing back.

ASIO mode will work better than WDM on the Delta44.

    Interesting daveny5,

While I use the Delta66 and not Delta44, I have always found that WDM works better than ASIO.
What is it you like better about ASIO mode ?

I found that sometimes I got distortion using WDM mode recording audio with Input Echo turned on. Don't have that issue with ASIO mode.
