Help - Sonar creating additional "primary" tracks on its own?
Newbie here, having a prob with additional tracks being created seemignly automatically by sonar and coudln't find this topic in the existing posts. I'm Using Sonar 8 and it seems to be creating additional tracks labeled "primary" attached to some of my existing synth tracks. Can't seem to figure out what I may be doing to cause this... i.e. am I taking some action that is causing sonar to create more tracks? But it seems to happen randomly on its own. For example I have created a rythm guitar track in Real Guitar 2. After fiddling with some editing, 4 new tracks labeled "Real Guitar 2 primary" have magically appeared. Anyone know what's going on here. Appreciate some advice.

I have no idea why this is happening, squo. But I'm pretty sure it's not random and it's not doing it on its own. Maybe a clue might come out if you elaborated on "fiddling with some editing". Are the new tracks MIDI, audio or instrument tracks?

Hi Squo, This is probably not the cause, but it's worth checking: when you insert you soft synth and the VST options box pops up, do you have "all synth audio Outputs" selected? And possibly these are in a synth track folder, which is why you initially have one track but then when you are editing, the folder is opened and your multiple tracks appear....

Thanks for the quick suggestions guys. Just launched my home studio based around studio 8 and just getting the hang of working the program... seems to have its nuances, Anyway, Raffi, I do notice it creating a folder and then some sub tracks within the folder when I insert a new synth track, I think I get why it does that and seems ok and that doesnt appear to be the issue. I tried to isolate what fiddling caused the new tracks to appear and one example is: I moved a track that I had previously recorded (using the synth Real Guitar 2 - a basic strumming pattern/progression) by dragging two of the clips in the track forward to an earlier part of the song. After I moved the clips 2 new tracks appeared at the bottom of my tracks (not under the original guitar track but all the way at the bottom of my track list) called "Real Guitar 2 - primary". when fiddling with these new tracks it seems that the volume levels are somehow connected to the original kind of duplicating it so if I increase or decrease the volume in either the original or the new track even it increases the colume of the clip, actually the two levels mix together... even tho there are no clips/music in the new/dupe tracks. Further thoughts? Hi Squo, This is probably not the cause, but it's worth checking: when you insert you soft synth and the VST options box pops up, do you have "all synth audio Outputs" selected? And possibly these are in a synth track folder, which is why you initially have one track but then when you are editing, the folder is opened and your multiple tracks appear....

Just hide them, They are the folder tracks that soft synths create as stated above. There will be no data or wave form in them ..right? And yes they are connected as you noticed by changing the volume. I just hide them and ignore them. Might be a toggle that stops them from appearing but I haven't found it yet.

Thanks Bitflipper, hope it will help Squo but it looks like there might almost be some track cloning going on somehow...

I've never seen spontaneous cloning happen. I have seen accidental cloning when you have more than one track selected, but that still takes a purposeful series of mouse clicks to make happen. I still think your explanation makes the most sense.

Thanks guys, interesting thoughts. My short term solution is simply deleting the extra tracks and in most cases its not causing any problems. P.S. this is a great active forum!

I've acidentally opened a synth with the ALL TRACKS OUTPUT selected and to fix it I simply deleted the synth from the rack, then deleted the folder tracks and just stared again selecting only the signal output option.
