If you're in the middle of a project and your budget is small, you'd be better off mixing on speakers you're most familiar with. Put as much money into monitors and room treatment you can later. And then take the time to listen to all kinds of music through the monitors to learn how things are supposed to sound. Plopping down in front of new monitors can produce some funny first couple mixes.

If you have a few thousand to throw down and don't have a deadline for the project, by all means...

    What's you're budget?

I second that, finish the project and after jump into monitors. If you buy a monitor now you have to keep your projects until you realise how the monitors sounds.
