Help!! UA-1G Crackling/Clipping

Help!!  Problems with UA-1G???

For starters I am using Guitar Tracks Pro 4 and running an electric guitar with SD JB humbucker through the UA-1G.  I am using the included guitar rig 3 software for my sound.

Has anybody had trouble with the UA-1G crackling or clipping?  I turn the input level on the UA-1G all the way down and slowly creep it up until there is barely any sound at all and if I give my guitar a good hard strum it crackles/clips/destorts.  This happens even when I have my software shut-down and just listening (through headphones) to the dry/clean sound straight from the UA-1G.  The worse part is that this "noise" is exaggerated when pre-amped through the guitar rig 3 software.  My gut feeling is that there is a issue with the UA-1G but I don't know enough about ASIO and digital recording/equipment to make the final judgment.  Another question..if it is the UA-1G, can anybody make a solid recommendation for a good audio interface?  I only use this set-up to record my guitar licks and ideas so I don't need mic/vocal in.

I've been using the UA-1G for over a year and I get no noise at all. So either your unit is defective or there is something in your settings causing the problem. At least those seem the two most likely possibilities.

Is the Guitar/Mic switch set to Guitar? Is the Advanced Mode enabled? What sample rate is the UA-1G set to? Is it the same as your Guitar Tracks Pro 4 project setting? What recording mode are you using? ASIO, WDM/KS, Other? If you're using ASIO mode, do you have small buffers enabled in the ASIO panel? Using too small a buffer size can cause the kinds of noise you are hearing. This is true of all recording modes.

sounds like your drivers.make sure asio is selected if your using that.then try increasing or decreasing your buffer size..welcome to the forum and the begining of a fun ride.

Chappel, thanks for the response.  I am staring to think it's a hardware issue because the noise isn't coming through in the recordings only through the headphones/feedback.  I'm at work now and I can't remember my sample rate or buffer settings.  I just followed standard set-up procedures and verified that everything was correct.  I will keep playing around with it and let you know.

That is what cakewalk is suggesting.  And they think i need to delete AUD.INI.  Any idea why they may have suggested that???

Chappel and chuckebaby..thank you both for the advise.  What I ended up doing was switching the input monitor switch to Auto.   This prevents the UA-1G from instantly outputting the input signal before the effects are added.  In Auto the signal is processed through Guitar Rig and then outputted to the monitor out.  The crackling noise was definitely coming from the UA-1G.  Now I just need to determine if this is a defect or something else that is wrong.  For now my rig is sounding good and I am well on my way to laying down some killer tracks.  Rock On!! - Jwilli
