Help! Unwanted Track "Echo" [doubling] Effect

Hi. Something here is not right in Newbieville. I'm just trying to figure out X1 Producer. Surely, someone out there can set this misguided newbie on the right path to sonic freedom.

I want to record some audio from my hardware keyboard. I've got my Korg Pa500 patched into the front dual mic/line inputs on my newly purchased Focusrite 18i, and have my X1 audio bus input set to Focusrite stereo, but when I turn on the input echo in X1, I get a slightly delayed audio doubling effect on the audio.  I've completely disabled my laptop audio device and am only using the Focusrite. 

The audio is fine until I enable the X1 audio echo input.

I have no problems with my interface when I record with another DAW, and I'm just quite sure its something very simple about X1 that I'm not aware of. I haven't used Sonar for years and need to update myself a bit, here. 

I don't recall having any such problem when I recorded before five years ago, but of course, I was using all VST instruments at the time, rather than hardware. Yet, I had no problems with vocal tracks, either.

What could be wrong? I appreciate any help you might offer me so I can go forward after spending all of this money on equipment and software.

Look at your Audio Driver Settings in Preferences.
You want to see a Total Roundtrip Latency of 20ms or less. Greater than that, and you will have a perceptible delay when you have Input Monitoring turned on.
Your Focusrite probably has direct monitoring, so the delayed signal is causing a doubling effect.
You don't necessarily need Input Monitoring turned on. It depends on what you are doing.
If you are using VST effects, or soft synths, you need it.
If you are recording the Korg dry, the direct monitoring may be all you need, and you can turn Input echo off.

Thanks for your timely reply, Robert. I'm at a roundtrip of 57.7 ms. by default, it seems. You've cleared me up on the input monitoring issue. It sounds like I should adjust my RT latency. Looks like my Focusrite ASIO buffer size was set at 11ms. I'm not sure how that correlates with RT latency. But it must somehow be be responsible for producing my RT delays. 

I've altered my buffer size and reduced my RT to 12.7 ms.  Everything seems alright, now. Its amazing what good information can do to change your day.
