Help With Panning in Sonar X3 LE and one other question
Hey Guys! So I've got two questions I need help with, and I'm not sure if this is the right section to post in! :) Okay, so I record through a tascam US-1200 audio interface. When I open the interface mixer and pan, it works, but in Sonar X3 LE (I'm gonna upgrade soon, just need a new computer! :) ) when I pan in Sonar X3 LE, the audio gets quieter, but it doesn't pan. In Console View though it clearly shows either the left or right channel getting more than the other if I pan the audio. Am I doing something wrong? Next question: I am recording drums, and I can only use four mics. Typically this ends up being 2 condensers and 2 dynamic mics. On The Interface, I turn up the knobs until the OL light blinks just a little bit. In Sonar X3, again in the console view, it shows that the dynamic mics are clipping. So what I do is turn them down to just above zero, and still Sonar tells me the mics are clipping and overloading. Does phantom power screw with dynamic mics?

In SONAR how panning works depends on the track interleave. In a stereo track panning works like a balance control. Do not use phantom power for microphones not designed for it such as dynamic mics. Also remember SONAR is not like tape, there is no point in recording a hot signal, reduce the gain on the interface.

Okay, I think I get what ya mean! When I've got sonar going, and lets say I'm miking an amp, I set it for the input to be channel 1 Left, since I'm only miking it with the one mic, and it's being miked into input one, am I supposed to record it in a stereo channel? As for the interface, There are no individual phantom power switches per input. There is just a button that turns it on for all inputs, is there a different way I should do this? I do have a XLR to 3/4" cable if that would be better. I dunno, I'm doing a lot of learning!

Hi, and welcome to this forum. As scook points out, you want a stereo track for stereo recordings, and mono for mono recordings. Click on the interleave button to select stereo or mono. One ring is mono, and a dual / two rings are stereo. (Red is stereo, and green is mono.)  All the best.

No. As said with other words above: Mono source=mono track.
