Help!
Hey guys, I don't know if anyone has an answer but here goes. I would like to record a response video to a backing track on youtube I'm one of the poor SOB's that got stuck with a Mackie Onyx Satellite which is working but heres what's happening. Guitar into boss gt8 stereo out to mackie the meters move but the only way I can moitor the input is to start sonar and turn on input echo, no problem there but when I go to record video on my logitech pro 9000 webcam the ability to monitor the input is shut off however when I play back the video there is guitar being recorded just no way to monitor at the same time I've tried the control panel and the sonar audio options to no avail I know there has to be a way to hear the input even with sonar off because I can here it as the computer is booting up but once up some port is being shut off any help is appreciated. Win7 64 Sonar 8.5.3

Hey there ! I dont do any Video Stuff myself but for me to hear anything playing while I record through my VS700 interface yes input echo must be on turned off I hear nothing. As far as I know you cant Turn on any Inter face on its own and get sound it has to be comeing from your host ( SONAR ) Unless you put a mixer on your input chain with speekers comeing from that then you would hear before it gets to the audio interface that then goes to Sonar if you are with me ? Dont take my word on all that though I am still learning my self and am haveing a guess of how I would try and work it out. One other thing and I dont meen to be rude but chances are you have had no reply due to the fact you just put HELP! In as your tittle no one will know what you need help with maybe you should start again and say sme thing like could some one please help with etc..... Then you might grab the attention of some one who could help :) THeres always tec support cakes tec support are the best and I am sure they can send you in the right direction Personaly I only use Sonar for Audio recording and I need the input echo on to hear what I am playing. Your right it sounds like sonar is shuting somehting off when go to record the video has the input echo turned off by any chance ? If your hearing guitar back once you have video recorded its sounding like something to do with the input echo Have you checked both buttons ? the one your Boss is running into and the one at the top of the screen in the control pannel area ? If I have time I will plug in my camera and se if I can get it to work or not Like I said you might be better changeing your heading a bit so as to catch peoples attention :) Norrie

Thanks for the input Norrie I will doublecheck those things and see if it helps I'm not sure if that's the problem though as the sound only shuts off after I start the video software I think windows is disarming my sound card in sonar to use it in the video program which of course has no input echo but I'll keep trying.

I use a Saffire interface by Focusrite. I plug in the guitar to the inputs, and monitor in real time from the Saffire outputs. The echo (in the track inspector) feature does not affect what I hear one way or the other. It only makes a difference if and when I use something like guitar rig...(a software guitar amp sim) but other than that I hear exactly what I put into the front end of the SAffire... and the DAW does NOT have to be running. The "echo input" is set up and controlled in the Saffire's control panel software which starts up with the computer and the Saffire.

Ahhhhh I get what you meen. Have you tryed doableing the computers sound card ? I use my VS700 for all sounds from the computer you should be able to do the same It might be a case of telling it to use the mackie mabe just disableing the on board card could do the trick ? Norrie

Hey thanks for that info guitarhacker I'll look into the saphire. Middleman, yes I can. I have my phones plugged into the Mackie it's a firewire interface I can hear all the comp sounds, youtube vids, etc. and my guitar which is also plugged into the mackie but only when I start sonar and turn on input echo I can see the input meters jumping but unless sonar is on I get nothing back through the phones, and Norrie, yes in win7 if you go to control panels then the sound options you can enable or disable any of the sound devices you have. The only thing enabled is my Mackie but I'm going to recheck that right now to be sure. Thanks guys.

No problem might be worth a try just incase your on board is trying to take over. I have mine disabled in the Bios so the computer only has the option of the VS 700 for everything I guess this could be trial and error for you and I hope its an easy fix probably just something over looked :) I will see if I can plug my web cam in tomorow and figure out what I do at my end and let you know my findings. How would I get sonar to use my web cam ? I have never tryed.... just so I have a starting point for tomorow thanks Norrie

Ok I tried the bios and it didn't work either if I select the mackie in control panels and check the "listen to this device" button in the recording tab I can monitor my playing while the cam is recording of course in this case you get latency which I guess may be the way it is. I wish you could get that latency free input echo that you do while sonar is running but I may SOL or may just have to break out my mixer or invest in a seperate vid cam. If anyone comes along and reads this in the future and has a fix let us know:)
