Help please! Changed my motherboard and cpu, now Soundforge won't re-activate.

Hi guys, I was forced to upgrade my MB and CPU today - now Soundforge won't run. Tried to email Sony, but their website is designed to avoid any real direct communication. ANyone know the trick here?

Thanks so much,

Ludwig

Can't you go through the registration process again? I just did it at the beginning of the summer. And if I remember correctly (not sure I do ) they allow re-registration when dealing with major hardware changes.

Addition: I believe the registration number is based on major hardware components, so you won't have a choice but to re-register. Not sure if you can do this without reinstalling. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

You will have to go through the registration again, as if you'd just bought the product.

This is the most annoying kind of copy protection there is, IMO: a license that is tied to your specific hardware. Most vendors that use this method give you a limited number of re-registrations before you have to beg them for a new one. Fortunately, they know this is the downside of this scheme and are prepared for it - I've never heard of anyone being turned down for a re-activation.

I know this because I recently had to replace my motherboard and spent the next week re-authorizing probably 20 different applications and plugins. With at least one product (Amplitube LE) I just said the hell with it and never used it again.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

yes, this sucks, but I thought as much. Would this mean I need to reinstall the software to get a new Machine ID?

The upside I'm now running an i7-2600 after 4 years on a Dual Core AMD - I THINK I notice a slight performance improvement, not sure :O)

     Thanks guys!

And people gripe about ILOK, but you can change everything hardware and software wise and your ILOK authorizations still work .. I know, I changed hardware when I upgraded to win 7 64 bit(double whammy), had to re-authorize everything except my ILOK protected software.even the Steinberg dongle stuff!!!

I have emailed Sony regarding serial number issues and gotten pretty decent response, so you might try it and see.  I don't remember who I emailed exactly, but it was probably tech support.  Short of calling them (from South Africa?) it might be your best bet if you need to get ahold of them.

Good nuuus is I called them in the USA and in five minutes it was all sorted - turns out I had exceeded my 3-times registration (comes from upgrading PCs etc!). Phew!
