Help show off Rapture and Dimension Pro

Hey guys.

If any of you have any cool trance style effects using Dim Pro or Rapture, head over to TranceAddict here:
http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=351248&perpage=12&forumid=48&pagenumber=1

They have a trance synth showcase going on. The thread has been active for over a month now. The first thread has links to all the samples.

    Here's a trance-ish track I wrote using Rapture XP1 patches exclusively:

    Rene -

What drums did you use in XP1 pack? Just curious

Great work. I spent the morning listening to it. I really like it!

    Posted over at TranceAddict. Thanks!

Edit: I was in a hurry when I posted this. I just wanted to say that is a really good tune there, René.

Do you have the option of posting your Sonar project file for this song? I'm assuming you used Sonar for this.

    Nice song!

Just a heads-up, the advertising vendor that tranceaddict or their ISP set up - paypopup.com - is IMHO hostile.
    (1) One of their popups had an auto-playing sound file
    (2) another of their popups tried to load a script that McAfee flagged as trojan.
    (3) paypopup.com appears to be coded to bypass popup blocking where possible.

I ended up throwing paypopup.com into my "Restricted site" list. Again, this isn't necessarily TranceAddict's doing.

Nice track, Rene`. What did you sequence that on - Sonar, P5, something else? I would love to see how you did it - i.e. to reverse engineer it. Rapture is one great sounding synth. I am really happy I purchased it.

Hope that didn't take too much time away from your design work on the new Cakewalk/RGC drum module to complement Rapture and DimPro which we all desparately need

The sequencer that Rene used on the track is the RGC Audio inspired "Brain 1" That is a very powerful piece of software...and the main reason that Rapture and the track sound so good is that Rene was involved in the process :) ajw

No doubt he's a talented guy. But even talented guys use tools. I ask not expecting that a certain DAW will somehow "magically" make one adept at arranging a certain type of music, but, as opposed to many times a certain tool facilitating a certain style of music, nevertheless, in this case, I refer to a specific piece in case it might be a Cake DAW, that we might be granted access to the file, thereby enabling reverse engineering with the objective of inculcating said style.

RM inspired "Brain 2" signing off for now

Ok, I got Rapture and this song featured over at TranceAddict. I hope people take to it over there.

Not many people over there use Cakewalk products. I cannot figure out why that is.

My guess is because Cakewalk is mostly involved in the "boxware" arena - no immediate gratification that you get from either a freeware download or a paypal purchase. You have to go to the store and buy it, or order it and wait several days for it to arrive.

Cakewalk is also "not cheap" - Rhino (one possible comparison product to Rapture) is substantially less expensive, for example. Fortunately, my income allows me nice toys like DimPro, Rapture, K2, and etc, as well as less-expensive ones like Rhino and Wusik.

Is Trance a european musical style? Or did it originate there? I ask because while cakewalk is sold over there I would think the european market leans toward the steinberg products?

I made the assumption that Trance/dance/disco are in some ways interrelated? Not the same but close. Not that it matters really. But I had thought that disco never died out in europe. That dance clubs were going strong long after it wained here.

Yes, Trance has roots in Europe. I will try to find a video about Trance that I saw a couple weeks ago that talked about it. I 'believe' the 80s and 90s dance music started in the U.S. but Europe took it from there when the Berlin wall came down as many East German artists developed the Trance genre - I believe this to be true.

Trance is primarly a European thing - they absolutely love it over there. I haven't been to a club in years, but I believe they play that kind of stuff in dance clubs over here as well.

    Edit: I found that video:

My track Haven http://www.sgxmusic.com/music/SGX%20-%20Haven.mp3 uses a lot of Rapture - the main big saw chords, the quick arppeggiating synth, and the bass are Rapture, though I put them through some camelphat distortion too. I dunno whats up with that thread, but if this is a good example, go ahead and post it up.

Either the whole song would have to be done in Rapture, or you would have to havea sequence available only using Rapture. The intention of the thread is to show off the capabilities of different synths.

    Thanks though!

Camelspace is definitely awesome. It makes all kinds of rhythmic crazy sounds that are often pretty useable. It's got filters, phasers, lfo's, delays, reverbs, and a trance gate. A lot of the time I'll just put it on some track (or the master track), play with the settings until I get some really neat rhythmic pattern, bounce a loop of that to track (in ACID), then bypass Camelspace. Now I've got this totally cool loop of rhythmic sounds to put anywhere.

Camelphat, I'm not sure if I would buy again now that the free Camelcrusher is out and seems to have the same distortions. Camelphat has good distortion, and some lfo and filter stuff that lets you do some rhythmic stuff. I mainly just wanted some straight distortion, so Crusher would have been good enough for me I think.

I have actually found that I can do many (not all) of the effects that CamelSpace does using Rapture itself - and it sounds better. However, the big problem with Rapture is that it only can be applied to itself whereas CamelSpace can be applied to any instrument. I wish Cake would make Rapture double as an effects plugin - like NI did with Absynth.

CamelSpace is still a wonderful tool regardless. It has a very dinstinctive sound to it though.

Those are two interesting observations, since Rapture is all I'm interested in working with now. However I still might grab CamelSpace just to learn what all of these "typical" trance effects are all about.
