Help with PCI Card (E-Mu 1820m)

Hi, I was hoping someone might help me figure out what kind of cable I need to buy to connect my E-Mu 1820m PCI card to my computer.

The 1820m PCI card cables that came with the cards don’t have the right sized plug to connect to my computer.  So I need to buy a new connector cable for the PCI card - Can anyone tell me the name of what I need?

(I have two 1820m PCI cards now for reasons that are too long and boring to explain).

These first two pics are of the plug inside the computer (i.e., I need to buy a cable that fits this):

This is pic of the two PCI cards.  They each have different cables coming out of them - the one on top has a grey cable connected at the top right, and the bottom one has a white cable coming out of the center right.  Same card, just different cables.

The next two pics are of the plugs on the PCI cards that don’t fit my computer.

Finally, I’m not sure if this is relevant, but this is another connection coming out of my computer that actually fits into one of the slots on the PCI cards, but is too short to reach the card when the card is in the PCI slot.

I'd really appreciate help anyone can give me on this.  I called a local tech store and they told me to look it up online.  I just don't know if enough to figure out what I need to look up!

I'd really appreciate help anyone can give me on this.

I ran into this same issue, and it was complicated by the fact that I needed the SATA power connector to run a drive. So I had to find a cable with the correct gender connectors to pass through the power to the drive with a split to the connector for the E-MU PCI card.

After hours of searching the Web and bins at a local electronics overstock distributor, I finally found exactly one vendor who stocked the right cable! Give me a little bit, and I might be able to find it.

EDIT: Here's the link where I oriignally found it. I think this page is obsolete, and the links are not working, but if you start at the homepage, you might still be able to get it here:

no, that makes it into 2* sata type power cables out of a Molex..

you need to make a sata cable into a male molex cable..

or you could just make it into a 3.5 type connecter , to confirm 100% speak to emu.. I'm sure your not the only one who had that problem

SATA to Molex Power Adapter  , is more probably what you need. not sure about electronic shops where you are?!?!

I sometimes get such things off ebay if I'm not in a hurry for them

what might be better for you , but I doubt they do it , is sata to 2 * 3.5 molex connectors

O.K. I am really confused. One of the cables that you show coming out of your PCI cards is a data cable, and the plugs coming out of your computer are power cables. You do NOT want to find a way to connect those two circuits. You will probably destroy something. The PCI card gets its power from the socket on the motherboard that it plugs into. If you do not have two old fashioned PCI (not PCIe) slots on your motherboard, you cannot use the PCI cards. See page 11 of your manual. The grey ribbon cable is to connect between the mother card (shown) and the synch daughter card (not shown) if you have a synch daughter card. The white  plug with the wires is to provide power to the external AudioDock connector box via the PCI card. You can still destroy something by screwing up the polarity on this connector, but at least it is meant for power. It looks like this connector is a standard floppy drive connector. Like this

SATA to Molex Power Adapter  , is more probably what you need.

Yes, but the kicker is you need Male SATA to Female Molex, which may not be so hard to find if you don't also need the pass-thru to SATA like I did. Then all you need is something like the large plug in the photo I linked. But, as I recall, even that was surprisingly hard to find. No one expects you to need a male SATA connector, because they are meant to be part of the PCB on the powered device.

EDIT: I contacted E-MU at the time. They sent me a link to an eBay auction for the wrong cable.

star... thats what I thought at first, wondering why it wasn't drawing the power from the pci slots solely..

but looking at the pdf manual, it needs some extra juice from the 5 volt molex cables ..

    edit ...

for me, I would convert the sata using a Y molex cable.. not hard to get... then you will have to make use 5.25" to 3.5" cables to make them fit that unit

if you need it for BOTH cards

SATA 15 Pin Power to 4 Pin Molex Power Y-Cable  + 2* Belkin Disk Drive Power converter Cable 5.25 to 3.5

if its only ONE card you need the extra power

something like that , but more local to you I guess

Yes, the extra power is to run the external "dock" that gets its power relayed by the PCI card.

so you would only need 1 , since your only using 1 dock? makes more sense now
