Help with VST software..

Hi,

I'm pretty new to vst technology could somebody please "explain" (concerning pianos) what is the diffrence between sampled, virtual, an modeled, also what is the relation between kontakt, logic pro, halion, an gigastudio, i'm doing the research but advice would be helpful..

    Well "virtual" would be any type of "VST" piano.

    Basically, "sampled" pianos play back pre-recorded material (of a real piano). For instance, the library may have recorded each note on a piano at 4 different velocities. So, depending on how hard you play, it will trigger the appropriate sample.

    A "modelled" piano uses "mathematical models" to simulate how a piano would sound at any given moment.

    Kontakt is a "sampler" (this terms now includes traditional 'samplers' and 'sample playback systems'). You can load many different formats of samples (wav, REX, EXS24, Apple Loops, Akai, etc.) and use its synthesis engine to further refine the sound, etc.

    Halion and GigaStudio are also sampler/sample players.

    Logic Pro is a DAW...just like Sonar, Cubase, Reaper, etc. It may contain it's own version of a sampler.
