Help with amplitude and sonar power studio please?

Hi,
 
First off I know how to insert amplitude into the effects bin of an audio track I have just recorded but how can I use amplitude when recording a fresh track?  I.e I've no way of knowing what the amplitude effect sounds like currently unless I playback the track I've just recorded and tweak as I go. A while back I was able to use amplitude almost as a late night practice amp and play live and hear its amp sims.....I cant remember how you do this any help would be gratefully appreciated!

    Do you have "echo" turned on in the track where you've loaded Amplitube?
