Help...EWQL Symph Choir / Sonar 8 Producer
Hi.... I recently purchased EWQL Symphonic Choirs (and orchestra gold), but I cannot get it to show up on the VST list in Sonar 8 Producer. I tried copying the VST files from the EWQL folder and pasting them into the Sonar VST folder and refreshing the VSTs but I got nothing... I tried to reinstall the VST files as well and still...nothing. I cannot seem to find any information via forums, manuals or youtube that can help me. Needless to say, I'm beyond frustrated, So, any advice/help you could give me would be immensely appreciated. Thank You. ~Dave M. musician_dm@yahoo.com

I don't have EWQL so someone who has it might tell you something different. but I would not advise copying the "vst files from the EWQL folder" into the sonar vst folder. just simply add the EWQL folder to the scan list and rescan. OPTIONS>GLOBAL>VST PLUGINS add the folder path where EWQL was installed and the press the SCAN FOR VSTs NOW or whatever that button says.

Thanks Beagle.. That didn't work... but someone was able help me on another forum. It's working now In case someone else is having the same problem, the answer was rather simple: The plugin file you are looking for is "play_VST.dll", or "play_VST_x64.dll" (if you use Sonar 64bit). Do a file search for it and then move that file to your Sonar VST folder. (C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins) That did the trick. Thanks again, Beagle ~Dave M.

Hey Dm I can confirm Beagle's suggestion for one to simply use plug in manager to point to the file needed. The file installed to the default location (C:/Program Files/Common Files/East West/Vstplugins). Did you get the new WordBuilder 'included' in Play version? This has made a HUGE difference in getting this whole 'choir in a box' setup to work for me. Hats off to Randy B & others; I never did get the right connections going on the previous separate stand alone version even after the detailed YouTube tutorials/instructions. Best, HeyDan

hey Beagle: I've always done it the other way. (The way EastWest suggests: copy the file into the folder) What is the reason to let Sonar scan for it?

well, like I said, I don't have EW, and I don't know why they would recommend that or what reasoning they have behind recommending that. I have had problems with installing softsynths and even apps into non-default areas sometimes because the programmers didn't think of all of the scenarios associated with non-default installations. and to sonar it doesn't matter where it's installed - you just have to tell it where to look.

Another shout out for help! X1 loads the play_vst_64.dll in X1,64bit just fine - How can I use this plug in X1,32bit? I have tried all the options mentioned above for X1,32 to locate the dll... No success. Thanks, DM

DM - have you installed the 32bit version of Play? they are not done on the same install, I believe. you have to choose which version to install during each installation.

I had a hard drive failure and when I reinstalled, I chose to install the 64bit version only, thinking it would work in X1 32. I have the free version of EWQL. I would be glad to reinstall it, but I can't find the original file as of yet. FWIW - play_vst_64.dll works in Reaper32... Thanks for looking at this.

I have no idea why it would work in reaper because it shouldn't. if you didn't install the 32bit version then the 32bit version shouldn't work on any DAW. regardless I'm sure it won't work in sonar without the 32bit version installed.

It appears as a bridged vst in Reaper 32bit. Interesting because I thought the bridge only went one way - 32 to 64. But it does indeed work. I prefer working in Sonar X1 32bit because of some of the 32 bit plugs I depend upon. And I do have a work around, I can add EWQL parts in X1 64 and bounce the track, just wanted a different solution... Thanks, DM
