Hey Strummy, I could use some help.
Can you parse this and let me know what I'm doing wrong. "It's great to hear about how helpful your son and mom are being." I think it says what I mean but it seems weird. What am I doing wrong? I think the are being part is bothering me but I didn't want to use the word acting, and I didn't want to use past tense. Help? best regards, mike

Looks good to me. "It is" (It's) and "are being" are both present tense. Being=the real deal Acting=looky-like

So, it's ok to be being? I guess I don't hear it used frequently enough to feel familiar.

I was being sincere. Here's an anecdote; Yesterday, my NYC producer asked me why I don't have a southern accent. I explained it was because I was from too far south. Some times the truth seems less sincere than it actually is.

"It is wonderful to hear that your mom and son are being so extraordinarily helpful." That's it. Now I see where I started with a mis step and couldn't get the ball in the goal. I like how you replaced great with a word that actually means something. Every loud mouth needs a good editor... that's what I always say. :-) best regards, mike

I'm not being funny but I prefer Mike's original. I'd probably drop the extraordinary and consider it a more accurate description of my thoughts. "wonderful" may be a bit flowery, but it's an improvement over "great". Maybe someone can pull through for the assist?

I'm now wondering what the benefit of being full of wonder has over the full capacity of the meaning of great.

mike_mccue Can you parse this and let me know what I'm doing wrong. "It's great to hear about how helpful your son and mom are being." Not that I'm anyone to advise, but... I would lose the "about". Is it great to hear that they are being helpful, or about how they are being helpful?
In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

It's great to hear that your mom and son are being so helpful. You're from too far south? That's a good one. :) Everyone in my family has a good ol' Okie accent except me and no one has a clue why. I chuckle at them (to myself) and they probably wonder what planet I'm from. lol Anyway, carry on. Just thought I'd stop and say hi for a change and offer my two cents.
