Hey guys

Hey guys i'm actually going to be getting cake walk pretty soon. I'm rebuilding this pc here and I'm ordered an awesome creative sound card which is coming in soon.
Unfortunately I'm using my Asus PK5-V built in HD audio for the time being. Although I'm having a problem maybe some of you can help me with.

Everytime I use the microphone to speak into or what have you, I'll say something and then about 2 seconds later the mic will infinitely repeat what I say in the program unless i stop the mic via a mute or what have you for each program (whether it's ventrilo or music mixer programs I have).
Anyone know the setting that may be doing this? It's definately something with windows.

When you say "ordered an awesome creative sound card" I hope you are talking about something from the E-MU line.

This is what I'm getting http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102005

And Yea I'm building a Crysis ready pc but I'm also a music mixer because I'm in a band etc etc so even though I don't have 7 speakers or all that I need a good sound card and such so i can record/playback.

Any ideas on why I'm getting feedback with the mic?

Man, don't buy that soundcard. Get something with some proper sized inputs and outputs. Maybe something with a couple of mic pres.

The feedback thing you are hearing is likely because you have "What U Hear" turned on in the soundcard's setup.

For the same price you can get a sound card made specifically for music recording that will work far better than the Creative series. Creative is good for games, not recording. Look at Musicians Friend, Sweetwater, or Zzounds for some pro-sumer recording sound cards and prices

    Seriously, that card is crap.

If you really plan to use it for recording, you should rethink that purchase...

    7.1 surround is not needed.
    $150 for a gamer's card is ridiculous.

You could buy a quality card meant for RECORDING for less than that.

    Here's one:

    Here's another:

I agree with Mod Bod though, you may want to consider a model with a breakout box containing full sized inputs and a couple mic preamps...depends how serious you are about recording.

the guy is a gamer, that's why i asked him above. cooketh, consider having either 2 cards, the SB for gaming and something like the 0404 for music, or just get an audio card, if you're not bothered by the whole surround sound thing. some audio cards can even do both (e-mu 1616 is it??) quite a few guys on here have a SB in their DAW for games, but most also have another card too...

I guess it depends what his priorities are then, but he could use a recording card to play his games, or, maybe he could use a USB interface when he wants to record, since USB often takes over once plugged in on a restart. This would require two purchaces though.

I play some games occasionally, me and some buddies like doing some Battlefield 42 online from time to time... The E-MU Patchmix allows for surround configurations, you'd just have to save the session for call up when needed. Personally, I don't bother with it, since USB headsets are better for gaming anyway, especially if you use voice comms.

    *edit*
How about buying a decent recording interface for recording, and grabbing one of those USB 5.1 surround headsets for the gaming...?

yeah he does say he ain't fussed over the whole 7.1 thing so me too, i'd just go for an audio interface. course, i'd have to have 8 inch nearfields too then.... and maybe a sub....

Do not get that soundcard.. Please do not get that card, Its a useless piece of crap and you can get a way better semi=pro card for alot cheaper.

How did you come to the conclusion that this card was Awsome, by the price???
That card is meant for games and not recording. I know im repeating what has been said by op's, but i really just want to repeat so you get the point.
