Hi, I'm Jesse

I'm new here, sort of, and I work for BandLab. This was intended to be an introduction post, but the few things I wanted to share made the post longer than intended. Argh. So as not to burgle too much of your time, here's a merciful summary:
  • This community has been gracious throughout the transition to CbB, thank you!
  • We won't screw up the forum transition
  • I'm responsible for CbB roadmap and some other things (and I've worked here before, too)

READS LIKE FICTION
Presumed lost in the aftermath of a collapsing star, restored by a rising empire from the east... Our hero, CbB, is no longer free falling but is free as can be. A new movement begins, with a diverse network of supporters from every city, village, hamlet and dell, uniting for a common cause. Here in this community, which has already bore witness to everything conceivable, we find ourselves charting new destinies as a new act plays out.

Yeah, I'll just cut the prose there. We're talking about music software, not the end of days. This is hardly cinematic fodder. But it is our singular focus, which makes it pretty darn important nonetheless.

I wanted to take a minute to introduce myself to this amazing community. I was thrilled by the opportunity to join the BandLab mission, and a couple months ago I assumed responsibility for the professional products roadmap, inclusive of CbB and related IP, as well as for new product innovation. I've been working mostly behind the scenes to date, but here I am to say hi!

THANK YOU!
This community has been amazing through the transition from SONAR (or wherever) to CbB, from helping new users troubleshoot to empathizing with the team. We owe you a debt of gratitude for these things, for all your care and all your time - THANK YOU! As we prepare to transition to a new community, new servers and new web everything, rest assured we're being mindful to not lose what works well here, while introducing improved ways of doing things where it makes sense.

EYES ON THE FUTURE
This moment in time is more than an acquisition, more than just maintaining CbB, more just a frame in an endless series of buffers... we're targeting an ambitious future for music technology, in which CbB plays a role, amongst multiple strategic arcs. As a company, we want to make each incremental step toward the future something meaningful, something we can deliver to you.

ABOUT ME
I'm passionate about user experience and believe that great software stays out of your way. Prior to "joining the band", I worked at Line 6 as a software engineer on various desktop and mobile products, as a product designer for several years and as UX group manager. In a previous lifetime, I worked as a product manager at our very own bakery, where I helped create Project5, a number of plug-ins and virtual instruments, parts of SONAR and a few derivative products. It was great fun.

As I've told others, joining BandLab is kind of like a homecoming ("Noel, you haven't aged a bit!"), but it's entirely new too, with an awesome team both near and far. Anyway, I'm excited beyond words and wouldn't be here if I felt the least bit otherwise. Here's to what's next!

Welcome back, Jesse!

I picked up Project5 when it was first released.  I still have P5 V2 installed on Windows 10, and it still works!  Not bad, for a product over 10 years old!  Would love to be able to use 64-bit plugins.

So if you can fit it into the product roadmap, how about updating it to 64-bit and re-releasing it?  There is still something about that virtual synth workstation workflow that never fully translated into Sonar, especially how the Groove Matrix fits nicely aligned with the track view.

DAW: CbB; Sonar Platinum, and others ...

Hey Jesse!
I suspect that one of the long term plans is releasing a Mac version of Cakewalk. I know that it would require a complete rewrite of the code and it will take years, but in the meantime the Windows version will grow due to this program has turned from being a less known competitor of Cubase and Pro Tools to becoming the best free DAW for the Windows platform, a no brainer without competition in its price range of 0$.
In summary, I think that Cakewalk will be very popular in the years to come as it is Davinci Resolve in the video side.

Hey, Jesse, glad you are back in the saddle for us.  You did some amazing programming before.  Can't wait until you get to be a little creative when the staffing is settled.  Looking forward to your contributions after you make a mac version (and Linux) and incorporate P5 into CbB.  Maybe a synth?

Re: Hi, I'm Jesse 2018/08/06 18:57:23 (permalink)
Thanks for chiming in and introducing yourself, Jesse. As soon as CbB was released i installed it and found it more stable than Spalt, which was really appreciated. When I found out Noel was on board, I knew things were going to be just fine. Meeting Meng and you has only solidified our thoughts about this transition.

I felt from the beginning that this situation was already far better than Gibson or Roland owning the product. I remember the days of Twelve Tone owning Cakewalk. There's certain advantages to a smaller company with not so many outside distractions and the skeleton crew you describe, especially when they're so capable like you and Noel, is a great start.

What you explain, makes it understandable why the new forum hasn't happened yet and why we all need to be patient as Bandlab hires more people like you and gets up to full steam. I'm totally confident in the team and feel really good about the future.

After the shock of last fall, I decided I would continue to use Splat since I've been on board since the DOS days and have tons of song files, so Bandlab has been Cakewalk's savior in so many ways. We're looking forward to what the future brings as it unfolds naturally.
