Hi

Hi all. Hope everyone is well. Been awol for a long time from the forum due to personal circumstancies. I think last january was the last time i was here for a very brief period and that was after another longish, previous break. Had a very bad year, as my mother, who i was caring for and who i was very close to became very ill and eventually passed away a few weeks later. She had a series of strokes that affected her mind very badly and it was the worst period of my life seeing her become a helpless shadow of herself and then eventually dieing. It's scarred me for life, emotionally, and i still struggle to come to terms with it. Also, one of my best friends of over thiry years commited suicide and it's left an emptyness and feeling of total confusion that's difficult to explain. Needless to say, i hav'nt done much in the way of making music. I hav'nt made a new track for over a year. Just hav'nt had the motivation after what's happened. Would'nt know were to start to be honest. To keep me occupied in music, over the past few weeks, i've been trying to remix and remaster some of the tracks i made last year to maybe put together an album. I posted a load of new tracks last year due to a prolific period i had, but they were hastily put together and sounded more like demos than finished articles, so hopefully they will sound much improved now. Here's a couple of them if anyone would like to check them out. I've done extensive remixing, reworking and remastering on these and i think i've reached the limit of my ability in those areas. Ooji-flip: http://www.soundclick.com...onginfo&songID=9714102 Falling: http://www.soundclick.com...onginfo&songID=9611405 I'd be really greatfull for your views on the mixing and mastering as those are the two things i've struggled with the most in the past. Thanks in advance for checking them out.Hope you enjoy. John.

Hey John.  I'd wondered where you went.  Sorry to hear about your mom and friend.  Life can be harsh sometimes for sure.  I think you'll find that getting back into music will be a tonic for you.

I've always been a huge fan of your music and these are no exception.  I can't find anything to criticize.  Everything sounds spot on to me.  I particularly like "Falling".

John, I've been wondering what happened, and I'm so glad you came back to tell us.  My condolences on all counts- a hell of a year to be sure.  You've been on my mind recently, so I'm glad to know you're attempting some music again.  As you know, I adore your musical sensibilities and these two are no exception.  Keep moving, my friend.  And give us more to listen to.

Hey there Blipp, hadn't heard one from you for a while? This is not what I remember :-) I really like this! It has guitars!! I may back that percussion off a bit? But I'm listening on laptop speakers :-( So take any mix advice from me with a block of salt... Also, "the nature" of the percussive tracks? I would make it less so on this one, and go with a more melodic feel? I know that's not your style in general. However, it's fun to think outside the box :-) Finally, consider either a coda, or a modulation to another key? There, now that I've completely re-written your song, and your production? I think my work here is done! LOL! Merry Christmas sir!

All you need is love, just ask the Beatles?

I love your musical sensibilities too. Thanks again Juli.

    Hi John

Really sorry to hear that mate... My mum died 5 years ago with similar circumstances so I can empathise. At the moment as well, my Dad who is 82 has the early stages of dementia and just discovered he's got bowel cancer to boot.... so in some respects you are not alone.

I find music helps me relax and forget the stresses of everything else that's around me. It's almost time for lyrics to 'Music' by John Miles there....!! Hope you get in the groove again soon....

A hearty welcome back. I have missed you. My condolences on all of the troubles that Life has beset you with. Similarly, in the past two months, we lost my ex-brother-in-law and father of my nieces, my beloved uncle, a great aunt (105!) and my bro-in-law's mum. To quote Mick, "What a drag it is getting old."

+1 on what Robby said about pushing the beats back a little and bringing the melody more upfront on these tunes.

Maybe a pinch too much on the highs, but that has a lot to do with your instrumentation choices. A gentle hi shelf slope might work. Also, I would try a little tape saturator in there to warm up the mids.

    Blipp,

Life is what it is ..... sometimes good and sometimes not so much.

I can relate to your sorrow. My brothers wife committed suicide, and I lost my dad at 16 yrs of age. My mom is likely next since she just celebrated her 96th birthday  Dec 10th.  Life goes on, and as long as the sun rises for us, we have to live it. We'll never forget them.

Music is the thing that tends to clear the log jams from our lives. As musicians we are blessed to have this as an outlet for the emotions in our souls.

Remixing old stuff is a good way to ease back into writing. You have some really good stuff. Working on the older stuff, I'm sure, will trigger the muse to write new music.

I listened to Falling. I really like how the acoustic guitar & acoustic slide was woven into the electronic stuff as it came in. Nice.

The mix sounded good on this computer with it's speakers.

Hello Mr. Blipp. I missed you and your unique music...lots. My condolence to you for your losses. It sounds like you've got an aweful lot to process. I am a firm believer in the deep healing of music. It gets into corners we can't even name. These two tracks sound great (my fave is Ooji-flip). Let Miss Muse have her way with you.

Thanks for the welcome back James. Glad to be back. Yeah getting old is'nt fun. had quite a few relatives depart this earth the last decade, inc my dad six years ago. Sorry about your recent losses. Got to admit i did make the percussion quite prominent as that's how i usually like it with this genre, but i realise it's not to all tastes. I hear you on the EQ side of things. One of my bug bears is achieving clarity, but not at the expense of overly bright treble. Ido use a lot of free vsti's and they can sound a bit ragged at times, so i think some of it my be due to that. I'll have a play with them again and see what i can come up with. Cheers.

Hi John. First let me say I love this music - I think I've really loved everything I've ever heard from you - this is just so creative, so entertaining.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your mother - the loss of your dear friend. Life can be so difficult ot times - I think we can all empatisize to some degree with the year you've experienced - I know I can. But, life goes on my friend and we tend to grow stronger from these type of experiences.

My thoughts are prayers are with you.

    Take care..

    Hey Blipp -
Welcome back.  My condolences on the loss of your mother and friend.   Unfortunately loss of loved ones never truely heal, (and would we want them to?)  What we can hope for in time is, acceptance and to be able to look back and celebrate the time on earth we were fortunately enough to spend with them.

I hope getting back into music can help you find peace in your mind again.  The music and production sound great and I look foward to hearing more!

    Hi blipp,

I'm very sorry to hear about your mother and friend. Lost my mom 13 years ago. Never seems to really go away but you get number after a while, at least I did.

I really like Falling. The first song was good too ... but I really liked the mixture of acoustic guitar synth with heavy synth sounds on Falling.

    Take care.

    Hi John.

I'm always really fascinated by your stuff.

Sounds like you've had a terrible time of it lately, I'm not surprised the creative side has dropped off.

I wouldn't have any thing to say about your mixes as you are clearly more than proficient in the use of the tools.

I must say I particularly love that groove Ooji Flip has.

Lets hope the coming year pans out for you in a much better way.

    Hi Blipp,
I feel your pain. I lost my mom in a similar fashion almost two years ago. I watched her wither away to 74 lbs. and revert to a 2- year old. She passed rather quickly, which is a good thing. My condolences.
Your music sounds great as always. Keep the faith, brother!

Hey Blipp. It's nice to see that your back. Sorry about the circumstances you had to endure. My condolences. When I get some time I promise to listen to your work. I've always admired your talent and think that this effort deserves as much. Be back as time permits....... great to have you back, though!

O.K. I'm back .... I have to admit, these aren't my favorites of yours but the effort is really great. It's interesting how things that effect out lives strongly effect our music and that is quite evident in these compositions. I look forward to more of your work!!!!
