Hey Freddie

I did a quick scan this morning before heading off to work, I did not see any instances of "error id 46 volmgr' in my event logs. Granted I was kind of in a hurry and didn't check in every nook and cranny of the entire Event Log system, but I checked the obvious areas where I would have though that error would have shown up.  Like you mentioned, the windows event log.

Bob
I will check those Windows / USB power management settings when I get home tonight.

Okay Cool!

Have a great weekend!

Best regards
Freddie

Hey Robert,

I extended my power settings to three hours. That should be good enough for me. This is my desktop. I don't really want it to stay on all night.

Also, i disabled the USB power saving option.  So, we shall see.  I really hope this works. I don't "really" want to purchase a new interface right now if I don't have to.

@redbarchetta - welcome to the forum!

i have a ftu as well and have a couple of tips:

  • turning off usb power management is essential, as mentioned
  • run it at 48khz or 96khz 24bit sample rate - 44.1 doesn't play well for whatever reason on either of my systems
  • running in wasapi mode is sketchy sometimes, so stick with asio as much as possible
  • in preferences/audio/playback and recording uncheck "always open all devices" - this seems to be somewhat confusing with the m-audio drivers or something because when it's plugged in to a power supply more i/os are available than when running bus-powered.  that has ALWAYS been a big hassle on my old lappy.
  • in prefs/audio/config file set usewdmdmaforwasapi to false, allowofflinerendermixthreads to false, threadschedulingmodel to 2, minimizedriverstatechanges to 2
  • if you have problems with audio dropouts, kick up dropoutmsec in the config file a bit
  • never let your computer go to sleep.  m-audio is known to bsod.
mine runs well even in windows 8 with windows 7 qualified drivers on any combination of usb connection - direct usb2, direct usb3, usb2>usb2hub and usb3>usb2hub.  it's a fiddly unit no doubt (and that power connector is just so danged flimsy!), but i've used it live a lot and had no problems once i found the sweet spot.

have fun and hope to see you around!

Hey swamp
I turned off usb power management several hours ago, have not had a blue screen yet.
As you suggested, I changed the sample rate
Yes, I knew about the power supply and more i/o.
I've never heard of wasapi mode. None of the other settings are anything that I have on my Ultra's settings. Are those settings you set in Sonar?

Well guys, those suggestions seemed to have worked. I've not had a crash yet.  I've been leaving my m-audio on and no crashes.  I even did somewhat of a stress test on it.  I turned my DR-880 on, piped it into Sonar, Sonar out to my m-audio.  Had ezdrummer loaded up playing to the midi pattern.   Left it running, went ran some weekend duties for a couple hours, came back and everything was still up and running perfectly.

You guys rock!!!!

Having said that, I still want an octa capture which now I can't justify the money for if this is working.

Congrats on it working!

Can you edit your original thread post to add 'Solved'?  That way folks can skip it if they were just going to read it to lend a hand.

Good news, though.

HA!  It dumped my computer again.  Having said that when I woke up this morning, my computer had gone into power saving mode for some reason.  I never changed it, but it did.

In a way, I don't feel so bad now for making an impulse purchase on an Octa-Capture last week.
