Hidden tracks gone forever?

Hi,
Music Creator 6 is driving me crazy: I accidentally hit Ctrl+T, which happens to hide all tracks that are not selected. So I've only one track left in my track panel. The thing is, I cannot find any way to get all tracks back. I cannot find any keyboard shortcut that would do the reverse, I cannot find anything useful in the manual or in the forums. The only thing I've found is in a forum post, and it's critical:

« What ever you do.... DO NOT HIDE THE TRACKS IN MC6.  There is no "unhide" function. That is the one bug that we have discovered. »

Is this some kind of joke?! Now that these tracks are hidden, I will never, ever be able to have them back?! Please, tell me I'm wrong, tell me such a stupid bug just cannot exist in the real life...

I read in another thread elsewhere that like the earlier versions, MC6 does not support hiding at all, but the bug is that
the hide-function has not been cut out (from the big brother X1s core that MC uses) properly, but unhide is.
If that is true, that's  an unbelievably massive mistake if you think about the concequences!

I hope you get it solved!

OK, great... I can't believe it. So I think that my only option will be to save the file as MIDI, and then re-open it (after losing all specific settings in the process, of course... but that's the point, actually). All the tracks are here, they play back normally. It's just that I cannot handle them any longer. Unless someone knows a way to edit this "hidden track" parameter within the file's code itself, or something? It's not uncommon for software editors to release updates and patches. Does Cakewalk do that sometimes?

OK.... here's a possible solution from another thread on this some time back

Cakewalk have responded with solutions for the hiding problem.  It is a real problem (a bug), but only happens to the epically unlucky and uncoordinated, like me.  Tracks can be hidden with a shortcut but can't be recovered (because hiding and unhiding aren't supposed to be in MC6).

The workaround is to move to another screenset, and hence a new appearance of the track manager.  Good enough for me.

This is the third or fourth time I've gone to Cakewalk since getting Music Creator, and every time I've had a prompt and thorough and fairly helpful response, even to what are pretty weird problems.  Everything in Music Creator and great help too!

IMO, this is as close to unbelievable as it gets in these contexts. I wonder if I've ever heard of a bug of that size (concequence-wise).

Thank you everyone for the advice! @Bristol_Jonesey: Would it help, if I re-install the software? And why would it actually? You mean, a patched version, on simply re-install the same version? Of course, I'd rather avoid that if I can... @Guitarhacker: "only happens to the epically unlucky and uncoordinated, like me" Well, that's me. I think I wanted to call "Transpose", and so I hit "Ctrl+T", and that was the mistake. I wasn't even able to unbind the key shortcut, so I bound it to some other function, and it seemed to work. "The workaround is to move to another screenset, and hence a new appearance of the track manager." I think I've already tried that – unsuccessfully. Or maybe I do not quite understand the way it should be done. @Kalle Rantaaho: "I wonder if I've ever heard of a bug of that size (consequence-wise)." I've loved Cakewalk for years, and I still love Music Creator, but really, this is a pretty twisted bug. It would really make me laugh, if I had not spent 2 hours trying to find some fix...

If you go the uninstall route, be sure to save a version of the project so you can reopen it.....BUT.... I really don't think that will solve your problem.

When you open the saved version, the tracks you hid will still be hidden.

Look into the change screenset thing and give that a shot.

Yeah I agree, that's a pretty big bug to have missed in the testing and certainly something that the bakers should have fixed with a patch.

Re-installing won't fix it. It's in the code.
Apparently most of the Hide function was removed or disabled when MC6 was being distilled from X1, but a bit of code was left accessible through what should have been an unsupported keystroke.

This won't fix MC6, but I would suggest the same thing Beagle mentioned in the other thread.
Did you get X1LE bundled with the Quad Capture?
If so, install it. Having both programs installed won't hurt anything. You should be able to open your MC6 project in X1LE, and unhide the tracks there.
All of your plug-ins will be available to both programs, so you can continue working in X1LE, or save the project, and open it in MC6.

@RobertB: Brilliant idea, indeed! I have X1LE, and I was able to open the project and unhide the tracks. I had not uninstalled X1LE, just in case. Now, I now why I'm keeping it installed!
    Thanks a lot!
@Cakewalk team, if you have 5 minutes to waste, please fix MC6! (so that users won't waste 2 hours each)

I love happy endings! That was an excellent shot!
Pitty it doesn't help people who don't have LE. Or should we now hold CW obligated to give LE to persons facing this problem ;o)

Deesnay, your two hours is absolutely nothing compared to how big the damage could have been. You could have hired a musician, worked for weeks, months, and then in the mixing phase, in order to tidy up the screen, you'd think you'll hide some tracks.....And deadline would have been next day, of course.

Well, IMO, Cakewalk should add an unhide feature to MC6 since they accidentally left the hide feature intact. They should offer it as a hotfix or something in an act of goodwill and customer service. If it were my business I would not hesitate and I do own a business. I have had to do things that cost me money because it was the right thin to do to rectify a situation. Frankly, I consider it as American as apple pie.

I can see no excuse for not doing the right thing when you make a mistake. If there is more to this than I know then perhaps I am mistaken. Otherwise, they should take care of it now.

I'm with you on that, Julien.
Either unblock the deactivated code, or plug the hole that allows this to happen. Activating the Hide function completely would be a nice gesture, I think.
This is not a bug.  It is not a system specific problem.  It is a screw-up, plain and simple.
Fortunately, Deesnay had a backdoor available, but not all users will have that option.
