Hiding Places

Well, It seems that one of the threads is full of confusion, so I thought I would post this piece to help ease some pain and suffering. No one is perfect and we all fall short of the glory of the Lord. There is no need to ridicule others, before we look deep into the mirror of life at ourselves. We can always do our very best to try and love one another for who they are, understanding that no one is perfect, as we all make mistakes, some more than others in this and some in that. When we get frustrated we can always find "Hiding Places".

Outstanding arrangement & production... I would love to know how you do this with samples... are you able to transpose the pitch and length of the samples? what software does that?

Frank, Thanks for listening and for your comments, they are much appreciated. As for being able to transpose the pitch and length of the samples, I use Sound Forge Pro 9. I can even change what chord I want to use, stretch time from 0-100 in either direction and change the pitch to what ever pitch I choose. Sound Forge has now come out with Pro 10 and Pro 11. The new things in 11 I already have through Izotope. Also, there are many things you can do in Izotope Ozone 5 Pro, so nothing is impossible when it comes to samples. I make some samples in Acid Pro 7 and save them as samples. Remember, I use samples and loops from several companies that are royalty free when you buy them. Also, using EWQL Complete Composer with my keyboard I can even make more loops and samples or complete songs. I have an arsenal to work with and I love it.

I like what you've done here. There's room for improvement as far as using some more tense chords here and there. Still, a very nice bit of work here.

As far as your post though. I feel the same way other than the god part. To me, prople have to much faith in god and not humanity. Sadly, having no faith in humanity is having no faith in god. Besides, we are destroying ourselves by not respecting the gifts he gave us. That is the saddest of all facts. Judging by what you said in your first post though, you seem to know who god is even if he does exist. There are such an immeasurable few like you.

    I enjoyed that!

Guitarpima. Thanks for listening and for your comments, they are much appreciated, and glad you enjoyed the bulk of the piece. Someday if and when I can come up with a video, I will most likely add to the piece, but not till then. I won't know what to do musically until I know where in the video I have to add, subtract, lower volume and so on. I just do a basic piece that can be ready until it is needed.

As for the God thing you would have to email me to talk further, as this isn't the place for a long discussion on the subject, but I do appreciate you comments on the song. Again, thanks for listening.

This was nice, but could be better. You have some bad habits John, the little swell at :55 is an example? I know you think it adds, but it takes away. That effect should be used "VERY sparingly..." And you use it throughout your songs? You should use it to build from one segment to another, and not "as an effect" which is how it is used. It should be used more as a (I REFUSE TO BE EDITED BY THIS DUMBASS SW!, sow while I was going to use the word for an herb used to flavor food? That rhymes with mice? **The SW here will edit it out if you spell it, like the "rhymes w/mice girls?" They will **** that out. It's BS.
So my point is that is should be used more like a mice girl? But not the word mice, but rather something which flavors food?

where it's needed, to weld things together, as opposed to "a thing?" What I'm saying is it's something to get from here to there, it's neither here, nor there, and should be used "only sparingly" to get between two pieces.

But hey? I'm a Network Engineer, and I don't make money with music? But what I am giving you is my honest opinion, something very few people will do... It is in no way meant to be disrespectful, it is my honest critique. I could just start blowing smoke? Everybody loves smoke...

My point being if something goes bbbbbrrrrrrrrrrRRRRRRRSSSSSSWOSH!

It might not want to do that more that once or twice? For dramatic effect? But opinions are like arseholes... Everyone's got one? And mine smells.

Robbie, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for listening and for your comments, they are always... well... different, but much appreciated. By the way, those are cymbals with a very long reverb tail attached to the sound file, and then placed in the piece where I want to use them, they're lots of fun to create and I like them, as you may have noted, but in certain pieces only. But you could be right, less is good!!

Robbie, Noted!! But remember, my pieces are many, many, many pieces in each piece and my connectors between pieces are many, as well, which rhymes with shhhhhwell, and spice is nice, when you eat it with mice, and I get you drift about this riff.

I will try to give an honest opinion. I always do. Some "blow smoke?" You won't get smoke from me... Sometimes it's good job? Sometimes it's a critique. But it's never anything but my honest opinion. It may not be right? But it's always what I hear.

Hi, John.  This is the first thing I listened to this morning, and I find it to be a good start to the day.  I don't mean to blow smoke up your arse, but even that can be medicinal.  I noticed the cymbal swell, too, because I use them from time to time.  My only advice would be to make it stand out a bit more and own it.  Other than that, I would not give a talented songwriter lessons in Composition 101.  Stay busy, my friend.

Lynn, Thanks for listening and you know your comments are always important to me and well received. Also, one thing everyone needs to understand is that when making these pieces for video, I tend to over expound on things, knowing that if or when I might put this to some video, that many things in the piece can change, based on where I have to put markers throughout the piece. Because I keep all of the project files, I can take things out, add things, soften, harden, add in new instrumentation or take some out. The list is endless, but I here what you and Robbie are saying and I will keep that in mind when I make some new pieces. The pieces I have created sometimes get changed when I am mastering the mp3 file and so it is hard to keep everything tight and close as it is in the .wav file or the project file. Hope you understand where I am coming from with this explanation.
