High CPU hungry plugin problems.

This happens with waves L3-16 and Ozone 4. When using them its pretty normal that midi notes wont sound or wont be played by the virtual instrument. Its quiet anoying. Ive find out that the less latency the less problems.

Buy a new computer-- If you use a modern computer I7,16GB RAM, Windows 7 x64bit, SSD disk to OS you would hardly come over 35% CPU usage...and that with countless of plugins and VST instruments..

L3 or Ozone 4 would take 1-2 % CPU in my computer...

Freddie could be right, but it may be something else. For anyone to be able to offer other advice we need your complete system specs and software versions.

    Intel i7 3770K @4.4GHz, 32GB RAM, 240GB SSD System disk, 2 x 2TB and 1 x 1TB (with SSD Cache) HDD. Windows 10,  Sonar Platinum. Roland Quad Capture.

That's usually just a buffering problem, although it usually shows itself when the CPU is under a heavy load. That's why CPU-intensive plugins such as mastering tools are best applied late in the process, when you're done tracking and can bump up your buffers accordingly because latency is no longer an issue.

Go to Options -> Global -> MIDI and try increasing the "Prepare using N millisecond buffers" setting to around 700ms. This is a fix for virtual instruments not playing back properly when there are high-latency plugins. This corresponds to the PumpDataMSec variable in AUD.INI.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Do any of the plug-in have multi core support settings?

Hey thanks for the advice it helped! And its kind of a work around for my other problem (http://forum.cakewalk.com...6&mpage=1#2292316) because Im not forced to freez the tracks, although it would be helpful to fix that to because maybe someday Ill need to freez some but thanks a lot. One question, is there any side effects on changing that setting? Say slower midi response or something like that? If there is is it significant? Because ive had that problem for a long long time and im pretty happy with the way youre advice worked out.

    Thanks again.

You know inside Ozone 4 settings you can disable internal latency compensating. It will still compansate but SONAR X1 takes care of it now...

And isn't it about time to put your specs in the signature? :o)

I guess you'll be posting many questions in the very near future, and that would save you a lot of writing.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

With my new DAW, the CPU numbers are way down, but I still like working in the audio realm, so I continue to bounce all the synths to audio and then apply O4 in the master... it usually only bumps the numbers a percent or two....

Same here I bounce certain things to AUDIO, some drums, FXs... work in both worlds. Sometimes I use them in VSTI format...and sometimes I use AUDIO.
I don't need to bounce my computer has the power to run anything...but you can do stuff with AUDIO-clips that you can't with MIDI data-

I got into the habit of bouncing in my lappy DAW since it did tend to run some pretty high CPU numbers and that resulted in problems like drops. Not always but often enough to make me change how I did things.

In the new DAW, the CPU is awesome and handles everything I throw at it without breaking a sweat. I just got used to working with audio.... editing is pretty easy and the FX are easy to work with too. I don't hesitate to bounce to audio and archive the midi and synth track.

Most of my songs in final form are running under 10% CPU with the audio plugs in the tracks and master buss.

is there any side effects on changing that setting?

It will slightly slow the response time of external hardware controllers slightly - things like control surface faders. Probably not enough to notice, though.

And that would be what chip, bus speed and memory, GH?  I'm going to be upgrading to a new DAW sometime in the next year and I really dislike sweat!

ASUS P7P55D Mobo  (will handle i5 or i7 and overclocking as well....I'm not overclocked)

    i5 750 quad intel chip

4GB RAM  the MOBO will handle 16 but the OS only goes to 4.

    Speed.... 750? IDK... it's fast

    running XP for the OS.

Even with 4 gb of RAM, this rig has not shown me CPU numbers higher than about 25% with several synths and lots of FX like Ozone in multiple tracks... I tried to make it choke and gave up because the plugs were not running the numbers up very high and I had multiple plugs in the tracks at that point.

XP:4GB ... you should get ~3,7GB of it onto use by adding /PAE switch into boot.ini (can be found at root of your system disk).
