"High Time"
"High Time" http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=2302&alid=-1 or http://tinyurl.com/yx5kqx a Bat's Brew tune i've posted this before... but i've reworked it so much, i thought i could use some feed back from fellow sonar users... i'm still just getting a handle on sonar, and still feel pretty- noob. ;) -vocal harmonies, acoustic, elecrtric bass, percussion a recent 'bass sound' thread inspired me to work up a new re-mix of this tune... with some added maracas..

Overall, a good job. It evens out real nice except the beginning the acoustic guitar seems a bit "noisy", maybe a bit overcompressed or over-limited. but as the electrics come in it blends nicely.Personally, I'd like to hear a bit more bass, but that could just be my monitors. good song. Rob

droddey thanks for listening.... this was my second go at recording a tune in sonar, and i'm still just getting the basics down. Melodymaker48 the compression on the guitars, going in, was fairly mild... but a couple of spots i DID dig in, and it's very possible i got some grain from it..... good ears, or a good system you have... you can probably hear it better than i can... some of the 'noise' factor, i did allow intentionally.... just for the live vibe quality.... but as i said before, this was my second song in sonar, so i'm still getting used to where my levels need to be, at the sound card entrance (maudio 2496) and at sonar pre level. the bass, on my system (krk rokits, hafler power amp) is already the loudest thing in the mix, and i tried to eq the bass so it would sound good there, and in the cans.... so i can't say i've got it dialed in.... my guess is, not. ;) by the way, there are NO electrics in this song. only left/right acoustic, middle solo acoustic.

Hey Gonzo, Really nice song ya got there! Some tasty guitar chops you have goin' on. Luv the solo at the end. For just using simple instrumentation, you hav a very full sound here. Your vox always sound good. I enjoyed this.

lhansen thanks for the kind words! i think part of the full sound, is thanks to the taylor.... i have to take sound AWAY from that thing, to get it to fit sometimes! plus, the sonitus and lexicon plugs on the reverb help.. mild use of those, can go a long way......

Great song, bat. Good song structure, funky guitars, great vocals and harmonies, good mix. You've shown a lot of diversity in recent posts. Really good work. Mark

is there a way..... to take the first word of the first verse.... copy it, and reverse it? so i can get that 'wwwwWWWHOOSH" effect into the word? the classic backwards recording technique, in sonar? how would i do it? (sorry, noobie question)

Very strong track again, when's that CD did you say? What I would do is select that part, bounce it to track, reverse it with Process Audio-Reverse, put a heavy reverb on it, bounce that to track again, with effect, and reverse it back. That gives that 'sucking' reverse reverb, if you mean that. HTH [edit:] made a little sample with piano: http://roflcopter.eu/dump/reversereverb.mp3

you Rock, Roflcopter hehe that's exactly what i want to do. ok, so i got the bounce to track, and i can figure out the reverse audio no prob... and i can insert the reverb on that part, and bounce again, but what if, say, all i wanted was the reverb itself, to be reversed, how would i route just the reverb to a track, that could then be 'reversed'? or is that too much trouble? great sample, that was exactly it!

I think you can do that, send the effect to a bus and export only that, but sounds like overkill - you just 'overlay' the new word+effect over the old one, is easier matching even I think. What I do is alt-select the part and ctrl-drag that to another audio track inserted just underneath the one, so it's just a copy straight underneath the other one.

Roflcopter well, i tried it! hehehehe came out sounding like gobble-dee-gook. :D i don't have the sonar chops yet, to get it right. i can do the selection of the part, and copy to a new track... i can do the reverse.... i can apply a reverb in the fx box.... - but i can't get the two to bounce as 'fx printed to track' to another track, to be able to then reverse all of that. and, i can't select only the reverb to go to it's own track. no idea, how to do that. i've got some homework to do.

I inserted the reverb as a clip effect, not a track effect - could make a difference. Rightclick on the wav form to insert one. Has its own bin. Then just bounce that to a new track, is how I did that piano thing too.

Good track this, really like that acoustic guitar riff, very moody and cool. Great vocal too, very crisply recorded.

Roflcopter cool, more info to play with!! maybe this time, it'll be better than gobbledeegook. jamesg1213 thanks, glad you liked it! that crispness is in part due to the mic (adk hamburg) and the mic pre (class A- all tube)

finally got the backwards part right!! LOL after several hours of trial and error.. i added a shaker part as well, that seems to have pulled it all together, but i don't think i'll post it again (unless somebody just really wants to hear it again.....) not that much changed, really.

after several hours of trial and error.. Remember you can put fx+envelopes on bounced sends too, that way you can achieve some weirdo stuff you *cannot* do via 'live automation' - is good for oodles of fun, and people really wondering WTF you been up to.
