I am still getting used to my new monitors so I did compare this on my old passive system just so I could get an alternate impression.  It sounds a little thin on both systems the HH is very prominent.  Please this is just my impression so that could just be a load of furry alien nonsense.

    Hi Dave,

Nice song!! I like your vocals. I think the whole things needs some attention IMO. The guitar sounds a bit thin to me. most mixers keep electrics in this genre well in the mids if things are busy, but this seems to be too much so IMO. Too mid rangy and not full enough. I would try to double track and bring it out some more, pan the tracks.

The whole mix isn't quite up to end result standards. A little EQ work should greatly improve on it. You need something to glue the mix together. It sounds like separate tracks to me. Good song though and it wouldn't take much to make it better.

I like the vocals and the playing. The mix though is not great. The drums don't sound real to me and the whole mix just doesn't seem to fit together - that's the best way I can say it. With some work I think this could be really good.

Thanks for the feedback, guys! I had to throw this one together in a matter of probably 5 total mixing hours with no sit-down time, so I definitely realize there's some work to do on it. I've redone the mix a LOT since this, with a bit of sitting time.
Definitely a lot high-end and not enough meat in this mix.

On my new mix (not sure if/when I'll release) I really pulled the drums back and upped a lot of the  lower mids. Also tried to make more realistic drums, haha! Thanks again for the info- my partner agreed, but not being a studio guy himself, he didn't have a lot to say until he read these comments!

It feels like the drums need some help (the snare) and the vocals should be more? Well they should just be more. That was on the laptop speakers.

Now on the buds, I am underwhelmed by the lead vocals (sorry, no disrespect) But everything else sounds better? The guitars, the bass, the drums. That snare is still on life support IMO. Even the vocals sound better on the buds, but there's room for improvement.
